In addition to most of the ones mentioned already:
Bandaids (bandages)
Polaroids (instant pictures)
Mack truck (semi or 18-wheel truck)
Mcnuggets (chicken nuggets)
Rolodex (address cards on a rolling index)
Sharpie (markers)
Brillo pad (steel pad for washing pots & pans)
Saran wrap (plastic cling wrap)
Tupperware (reuseable plastic containers)
Ritz (crackers)
Q-tips (ear cleaning thingies)
Levis (jeans)
Tylenol (acetominphen)
Velcro (sticky fabric stuff)
Frisbee (flying disc)
Kool-aid (flavored drink mix)
Scotch tape (clear tape)
Wite-out (corrective ink)
Styrofoam (white fluffy packaging stuff)
Post-it note (sticky papers)
Thermos (temperature-retaining container)
Escalator (moving steps)
Hi-Liter (flourescent marker)
Jeep (he he, I knew we would tie into LOST somehow. . . )
Vaseline (petroleum jelly)
Chap Stick (lip balm)
. . . all brand names and all are referred to by their brand name (whether or not you're buying or using the brand name) in my neck of the woods. They're called eponyms, for anyone who's curious.

Oh, and in Mexico "Bimbo" is a brand of bread. Translated from Spanish, many people say "I'm going to buy a Bimbo" instead of "I'm going to buy some bread."

Every time I heard bread referred to as Bimbo I couldn't help but giggle.

How about mental = insane or crazy, "She used to be fine, but she's gone mental now."

I believe that originally was used in England but I hear it used in America now.

Good ones from both of you. None of those really have any competitors though, whereas Coke has at best 50% of the market. The biggest competition for those is the generic or off-brand products, which is also not true with Coke.

Well now that's just plain not true.

Thermos...
Kleenex (which you've said)
BandAid

(I'll think of some others and EDIT)

The COKE is everything in the South is a true story though... only few will actually be specific b/c they don't like Pepsi or vice versa... however, in defense, I have to say that Sprite or 7Up is used for the non-cola brands

I'm in Texas, and I’ll attest to the fact that a lot of southerners do use the word “coke” instead of soda. Although, I’ll add that it is mostly the older people that do it. Most people under 35 (in my experience) will refer to the exact brand. I always do, but that’s because I HATE Coke and Pepsi. I’m a Diet Dr. Pepper kinda girl. When I was a teenager I worked for a while at McDonald’s and I had to constantly deal with dumb-asses who would ask for a large Coke and get mad when they drink it because they really wanted Dr. Pepper or Sprite.
