What is True Blood about???

Good to see a new forum on here!!!

Ok... those in the know... Smiley is going to do a 'I'm a newbie for this show' all over again and ask the question...

What's 'True Blood' about?

I am going to go all out on a limb here and hazard a complete guess that it's a vampire thing... with maybe a male or female non vampire lead who likes the male/female vampire...

Who's in it? Is it worth watching as a show?
Has it been shown on UK TV's yet, cause I may have missed it if it were on already.... Til today, I have barely heard about it!

Any fans of the show care to enlighten me? It worked for Supernatural... It's BuddyTV fans gave me a brief about the show, prior to me watching one episode and I got hooked.... so it could work with True Blood!!!

You are not mistaken.
In the universe of True Blood vampires are out of the coffin, so to speak, and the whole world knows they exist. There is a male vampire who is the male lead character, a real old-style Southern gentleman, I'm quite into him.
But vampires are not the only supernatural beings on the show. You also got mindreaders and shapeshifters and probably some others we don't know about yet. It's an HBO show, which means no sugarcoating things, language, sex scenes, violence are all very adult. (What I'm saying is, it's not a show to watch with AJ)
The are using the vampires fighting for their civil rights as a metaphor for any suppressed minority, imo.

When on a scale of 1-10 Supernatural is a certain 12, True Blood comes in at 7. Definitely worth watching, but not worth nagging you to the point where you want to throw your mouse at me for constantly bullying you to watch it.

You should definitely watch it. I would give it a better rating than Calena did, mainly because of the originality. The great thing about HBO is the writers can get away with nearly anything, which makes the story much more compelling. You do have a vampire as the lead character, or one of them, but the show isn't centered on him. Many of the other characters have interesting storylines as well.

You have to keep in mind that 10 is the highest score, 12. Only SPN can get a 12, because of its unique brilliance.

That's very true. Another thing: while there are romantic moments between the leads it's never cheesy.

That's my point. You do not compare it to SPN. The scale for every other show just goes up to 10! So TB would be a 7 or 8 in your opinion, too.

Last monday week... My Mini Me said to me in a worrying tone that he thought I drank far too much coffee and that I was really cranky before that first one in the morning.... so he urged me to give it up... So I have been cutting down big time.... first week damn near practically killed me... I was taking the head off everyone this side of the world.... I went from 8 coffees + a day down to 6 then down to 4... then 2... and now just the one... in the morning about 7am... ... the rest are decaf... Pure and utter horrible dishwater tasting decaf.... That first cup of coffee in the morning for me is like nothing else I have ever experienced... EVER!!! I also keep telling myself that every decaf cup is good for me... and I am not getting so many headaches now... but with any addiction... I swear I always want to go back....

I'll catch up with True Blood eps over the next few weeks... Nearly finished Dark Angel... Really funny moment in it today... or the ep I watched today... Jensen & crew were all trapped in an ambulance with police zooming in on them... about to catch them... and he turns around and matter of factly says...

'I fought the law & the law won'!!!

Seriously... genius!!! Pure comic excellence at it's very best!!! It's truly no wonder at all they continued with much the same in SPN!!!! So glad Kripke & Crew tapped into that and didn't ignore it!!!
