Sam Merlotte

Sam Merlotte, shapeshifter and generally nice guy, is the successful owner of Merlotte's Bar, where Sookie works. He often bartends. He's not a native to Bon Temps but is still well-respected within its community. He's long been enamored of Sookie, though when the series opens he hasn't made anything of it. He is jealous of Sookie and Bill's relationship and seeks solace in the arms of Tara Thornton, which doesn't last long either. As of season two, he is involved with newcomer Daphne, who is also a shapeshifter.
