What's with all the assuming???

Almost every Supernatural Board I have gone to, Someone mentions that they wanna know what Dean's Amulet does. For some reason some people think it actually does something useful.

Can anyone please tell me where they're getting this idea from?

Because in the ep "A Very Supernatural Christmas" wee!Sam said to little!Dean that he had the amulet from Bobby and it serves a purpose, something about protection, but it was never specified.

I'm kind of glad someone asked that actual question... 'What's with the amulet?'
I've often thought it to be quite a weird and somewhat ugly piece of jewelry myself.... To me it kind of looks like, at a glance, a really big overgrown mother of a headlice who is about to make it's home in amongst Dean's upper torso hairs!!! It doesn't scream much of anything else to me at this moment in time.....
Some say it looks more like a beetle... some say just a random insect thing with loads of legs... but I'm going most with the giant headlice nit like thing.... odd I know... but hey ho.... who knows?

As to it's actual significance in terms of power etc.... I dunno.... maybe the protection Calena speaks of is more about warding off other neighbouring headlice....

Seriously.... as Calena said, there was a brief reference made to it all the way back in the AVSC ep.... maybe it just a superstitious item like say a scarab beetle pendant or a horseshoe thing or something... and does not hold any actual power other then of a superstitious nature... We all carry lucky charms about with us etc... maybe it's one like them... and in fact holds no other actual power at all!!!

What is your overall opinion of it, Pheonix?

Well, I think the Amulet is a little bit weird looking but it's just apart of Dean's character now, because he's had it since the beginning and I do love the fact it's never been taken off...Well...Except that one time in the episode Skin but....it was on a shapeshifter Dean, so I can live with that.

Actually I think I can recall in the ep A Very Supernatural Christmas Sam saying about the amulet. "Uncle Bobby gave it to me, It's special."

To be honest, I think it's pretty much just the sentimental value of it, I mean Sam gave it to Dean which we got to see and that was adorable and something tells me Most presents Dean got were cast off's from his Dad or something. So it was very touching to see Sammy give his big brother a gift, and like most of the fans i Awww-ed away.

But, to me I think if it actually had any power or anything, I think it would have shown itself by now and just as a side note, I never want Dean to take it off!

OH! Another side note maybe they made the Amulet so ugly to tone down Jensen's pretty-ness?....In which case I don't think it's working at all.

Didn't Sam wear it when Dean was 'dead' ? It's a bit odd though that shapeshifter could copy clothing style etc of Dean but not such a piece of jewelry .... That was such a good ep too.... Crazy nasty Dean was not a nice sight.... I hope they don't do that to us again... EVER....

It was probably wording used from an adult in charge to a young deflated kid at a Christmas period.... Sam would have been down about the absense of his Dad, so I assume, it might just have been Bobby's way of trying to make real good of a very sad situation for Sam.... we all do it from time to time with our kids at Christmas...

I agree... it was something from Sam, that Dean most probably truly treasures... Dean, by order of being the oldest born would naturally get all Dad's hand me downs... Sam, I assume got most of Deans.... it just goes to show who was actually the stronger willed brother growing up seeing that Sam developed mostly his own sense of style, tastes, music tastes etc.... totally different to that of either his brother or his Dad... where Dean is more or less a clone of his dad...
Maybe it has most significance to Dean as it is probably the only thing he owns in the world, that was given to him from a family member that didn't or rather doesn't have something directly to do with hunting demons etc.... everything else in the world he owns has a specific purpose.... the car, the leather jacket... the journal.... etc... etc...etc... maye it's the very thing in that respect that keeps him most grounded and feeling most human and more specifically... loved!!!!

Yeah... it's made him look as ugly as Hell.... in fact, I really can't bear to watch him at all .... Thank the good Lord above, Sam doesn't have a similar amulet or we would abandon them altogether....

I take the amulet as just part of Dean's charactor. I don't think it has any magical value but a sentimental value.

^^^ I know...... Damn it! We were all wrong-ish!!! Who'd have thought that?
As it's now apparently 'God's EMF!!!' ..... Am I the only one who thinks Dean in time might be a bit more pissed about this revelation, on the hearing that ..... [and I quote] ... 'It glows red in God's presence'..... THEREFORE.... assuming for the last FOUR seasons of X amount of years plus the best part of a lifetime of it staying as is around his neck then, it could be argued that God hasn't once been around him... total abandonment in every sense of the word! I dunno... but I'd be pretty pissed about that one.... I would kind of be wondering why now, I would bother doing anything for a being that never came within a glowing distance of me once over a 20 odd year span.... but I guess that's just me.....

Btw... Some argue that this amulet resembles a bull like creature.... can't see it myself... I still think it most resembles a headlice... but I guess I'm alone in that one....

That's such a god point! Also, whatever happened to "God is everywhere?" I thought He was supposed to be all around us, in everyone and everything. So, I guess not, on this show.

Yeah, "burns hot in God's presence." Ummm. . . I guess it's hard for a show like this to really cross the line into ridiculousness (by that I mean that the show is basically an out-there show, anyway), but I think they're surely toeing it with this! I have faith; this show always does a great job entertaining me with only minor missteps, but this is. . . worrisome.

Head lice? I've never seen head lice, so I can't comment. I've seen their nits (on wigs at cosmetology school), but that's it.

They are manky things... really horrible... they walk from head to head not jump as people believe... enough about them... anyway, click on this link, view pic of thing and then all tell me it doesn't even slightly resemble the thing Dean has on his amulet.... Huh.... huh.... ???
