1.5 Bloody Mary Episode Discussion

Sam and Dean investigate the mysterious death of a man whose eyes were gouged out. They learn that murder victim Bloody Mary is haunting the town through a mirror tied to her death, and is attacking anyone who feels guilty about killing someone, whether that guilt is justified or not.

Lets discuss this very creepy Episode!

And of course, The big question with this Episode is, Why the hell did Dean's eyes bleed?!

Anyway...I was like Oh my god! When we saw Jess standing on the side of the road...Hmm Maybe one day they'll have to go back there to put Jessica to rest.

I was thourougly scared by this episode. This is one of the scariest SPN eps ever.

Do we know why Dean's eyes bled yet? I don't think we do? Or do we and I forgot?

I guess they will put Jess to rest in S5. Wait, don't the have Mum Mary to put to rest too? She appeared as a ghost, too, in Home for example.

I kind of loved this one just for the scare value.... well OTT at times... classic!!!
Anyway... Here's how I saw the ep....

Btw... you'll all be pleased to note that this time I do in fact remember the town this ep started in... ok... maybe not the town, but I got the right state... it's either Alaska... Hawaii or ummm.... Ohio.... let's go with Ohio... we start off with a group of young puberty driven teenaged girls who all dare a young lass called ummm... Miss Candlestickmaker or Bakermaker...or Shoemaker ...etc... to look in her bathroom mirror and shout out 'Bloody Mary' three times in a row.... To me, they all look to be bordering on alcoholics... with all their shouting out for cocktails and things... but nevertheless... a mad oddball baddie suddenly appears and promptly kills the Dad downstairs... who was minding his own business standing guard over the liquer cabinet.... poor man!!!

Meanwhile... back in motel room, Dean is doing some more reading... [we are starting to get impressed now with his attention to improving his literacy skills... ]... Sam is once again asleep.... OMG... Doesn't that man just love his sleep??? ... Bad timing though... Sam's flipping out over a flashback nightmare type thing about his beloved Jess in the see thru nightie... the nights are so long without her and all he has to greet him first thing each morning is brother Dean, who isn't interested at all in baking him any more fresh cookies....

They then go to the local Morgue, of all places... Good old Dean... why take your 'about to crack' brother to a pub for a p*** up like the rest of would do... when you could just double up on all the enjoyment and excitement by showing him a pile of more dead bodies??? Daddy Shoemaker's eyes looked a bit bloodshot to say the very least when they eventually had a gawk at him... Not wanting to leave all the fun there at that point... Dean then brings Sam off to the next big hotspot of fun, the Shoemaker residence... during a funeral service... they have a go at being mourners... Sam does, to his credit ... look the part... Dean, is just eyeing up the talent and the food...

Young Shoemaker lass who started all the trouble in the first place wasn't happy to leave it all there... oh no.... she wanted big sister involved... and her friend... they all muck about a bit and friend says the words... and eventually dies off horribly after faking it the first time...

And once again... the silly girls are back for yet another round... seriously, are all Ohio people this thick??? Creepy Mary starts to appear in every shiny surface imaginable in the house... The boys appear too... looking a bit let shiny.... they use an old fashioned door!... They go a bit OTT with the sheets and pillowcases covering everything in the house.... now if she had only given them a can of pledge furniture polish at the same time... she would have a spotless hose by now, but no matter... opportunity wasted... we move on....

The boys eventually work out who this Bloody Mary is ... apparently, she was a lass who once dies in front of a mirror... too ugly for this world, most likely... but again... we move on... they work out the current location, which is an antique store,...now home of the offending mirror!!!

Sam now wanting to get in on all the fun... summons up Mary at the mirror and funnily enough, she actually appears... we start to worry for him... Sam has nice eyes... he has a nice butt too, it's not quite Jeffrey Dean Morgan hot, but it's hot all the same... ... but of course he really doesn't need to see his own butt with his own eyes... but as we do, we cover our eyes to protect them.... Sam is in a bit of pain.... we can't help and don't know what's happening as we have covered our eyes... we decide to be brave by removing our hands... nothing happens... we are much relieved!!!

And back to Sam... Sams bleeding eyes are now starting to make a mess everywhere and just when we are about to scream at our TVs... 'WTF's Dean???' ... Up he pops... smashes mirror... and out pops Bloody Mary in a 3D kind of way.... we are all really frightened... *scream scream scream * ...

Deans eyes start to bleed.... Ooooohhhhhh...... God no.... Two guys who soon won't be able to see their own butts in those jeans like the rest of us can.... it's a very worrying time for us all.... With blood streaming from his eyes... Dean grabs a nearby mirror and holds it in front of Mary... she starts to see things reflecting back at her and as she isn't really into all that , then disappears for good...

And that's about it... they sigh, we sigh... we do a quick inspection with our eyes... yep... all still good with the boys!!! Yeah, they live to fight another day!!!


I did find a few things amusing in this ep... that whole conversation the boys had about the way the Dad's death occured....
Sam: Might be just medical thing...
Dean: Dad spent a lifetime doing these things and it was almost never medical... always Supernatural... etc... etc...
I can't remember exact quote... but whoo hoo... Daddy gets a mention, despite the fact we haven't yet seen even the smallest glimpse of the man... we are starting to believe maybe he doesn't exist....

Good ep, overall... one of the better ones at that stage in the show....

Prepare yourself: I AGREE! This is such a shock; I kind of don't know how to behave!

I, too, was a tad scared by this one. That's cuz they ripped off "The Ring," and that's the only movie that ever actually scared me. I don't find the whole thing scary, just 3 scenes, and the movie has this odd knack for building a feeling of creepiness that you can't define.

So, yeah, Mary looked/moved too much like Samara, and crawled out of something like Samara. Some people don't like this ep. because of this. They just scream "rip off!" and turn up their noses. Some people seem to think that just because something's been done, it makes it bad if it's ever done again. Bull hockey. Something isn't bad simply because it's already been done. If that were the case, then practically everything would be bad, because practically everything's been done. People like this must have a mighty hard time getting entertained! One should be looking to see if what they're seeing is good or not. Simply that. It doesn't matter if or how much it's been done already.

It was creepy.

Dean's eyes bleeding! At the time, I just assumed that they were just because he was there. I figured that, whether or not one was guilty, if you happened to be with the guilty party when she appeared, too bad, you get what they get. (Also, our super smart Sammy, as far as we know, has never addressed it. That doesn't ring true if she only appears to those who feel guilty.) But, of course, later, we found out that nope, Dean was feeling guilty about something. If they've explained it, I have missed it.

I wonder if he didn't see Azazel enter the house or Sammy's room or something that fateful night and Little Boy Dean was too scared to do anything, so he's been feeling guilty about that. Or that he's known something's wrong/iffy with Sammy for longer than we all know.

This is the scariest ep. for me so far. I'm just not easily scared; not by horror movies/shows, anyway. Some people in here are terrified of itsy bitsy spiders. This show must absolutely terrify them.

I agree with you - oh the pain! There's a difference between cheap rip-offs and well done quality homages.

I'd prefer an angry ghost over an icky spider any day! It's not that I am scared by spiders per se, I am just revolted.
I have no problem with (non-poisonous) snakes, for example!

^^^ I think they kind of touched on that whole issue a bit in 'Phantom Traveller' ... the whole Poltergeist chat where the random guy walks by and says... 'Poltergeist -I love that movie!!!' ... Now that's true humour there... I was laughing for ages over that one!!! Classic stuff...

Oh Lordy... I have just come across a rather amusing Southpark ep about Satan throwing a fancy dress 'Hell On earth, 2006' party in LA... The kids in the show keep summoning up the late 'Biggie Smalls' in true Bloody Mary fashion.... He's banned everyone from wearing 'The Crow' outfit and he's wearing a Brittany Spears one... Real bad guys, Jeffrey Dalmer, Gacy guy & Ted Bundy are all sent out by him to pick up his birthday cake and are taking off 'The Three Stooges!!!'... seriously funny stuff... I dunno... sometimes, my humour is seriously warped... I can't believe it's really me who finds this stuff so funny.... ROFL....
