Great episode overall, like best of the season yet. Maybe a bit gory IMO, with the body parts in the Carrongtons' basement and the nail (I totally looked away though when it happened). Oh, and I feel bad for saying this but finally an ep to calm down the Ruby and Bela haters.

(And I also waited for JDM to make an uncredited guest appearance in the flashbacks, dunno why. Total sidenote: I very much liked the casting of the child actors in the flashbacks, well done in my opinion)
I so wanted JDM to make an appearance. I heard he wasn't going to be there, and his name wasn't there, but I still hoped.

And I was so glad they got the same Dean. that was awesome. They should keep him for as many flashbacks as they can. Obviously if they go younger they can't do that.

And yah I agree, finally an episode to keep the Ruby/Bela haters a moment to calm down LOL.

The nail scene freaked me out. And I swear to you I was terrified of Santa.

Yeah, me too. Now I didn't read any spoilers so I kept up hope throughout the episode even though I know it was highly unlikely. Aw, I kinda miss Daddy Supernatural.

Did the child actor appear previously in flashbacks? I have to admit that I seriously can't remember now. Heh, I really have to rewatch the first two seasons of SN. Oh well, ikf the writers' strike lasts any longer, I might have plenty of time to do that.

Yeah he was in Season One: Something Wicked. The one where the monster was sucking the life out of children. The kept doing flashbacks to when Dean and Sam where there and then Dean left Sam alone and the moster almost got him. The used the same actor for Dean.

The Mary Poppins/Dick Van Dyke line was stupid and just served no purpose other than to show Dean, once again, not knowing something. Yes, it was just a blink and you miss it moment but I do wish they'd cut that out. If it was meant as a joke, it was pretty tired. Otherwise, there was no point to it other than the reason I stated above. No, I don't really care that Dean knows Mary Poppins or Dick Van Dyke but this habit they have of making him clueless about something in order to make a "clueless dean" joke or a "Sam's a girl" joke is tiresome. Making Dean clueless so they can give college boy Sam all of the exposition is also tiresome. They are poor/lazy excuses for character continuity and they don't do either character any favors. Both characters just seemed more well rounded in the first two seasons. This season, so far, they're rather one dimensional.

I enjoyed this episode for the most part, but mainly due to the lack of two characters who shall remain nameless.

I agree with most of the comments about this epi. The best one so far this season, not that I disliked any of the other, but this one was so special, because of the Xmas context, and Sam not wanting to celebrate it at first, but then giving in for his brother, but being sad at the same time.
The anti Santa was so great. The couple absolutely wickedly delicious, the Mrs. Fudge giving Dean a lecture about cursing - priceless - the nail part gosh, close my eyes every time I watch, gross, but what I really enjoyed was the balance between the gross, the fun and the brotherly relationship, and somebody said "we need them to hug and say the infamous "L" word", couldn't agree more, they HAVE to say "I love you" to each - the sooner the better, any fan in the universe is waiting anxiously for this - you hear me Kripke, pls a "L" scene - the sooner the better.
Wishing everybody a very merry Xmas and a great 2008.
Also praying for this strike to end very, very, very soon...
Peace, health and

I loved this episode, it was just sweet, showing the 'wee' Winchesters. And when they pulled Sam's fingernail off...OMG...that had to hurt.

How old are you Lola? Are you in your 30's onwards? I say this cause, while I very much appreciate your comments, even agreeing with aspects of them... some of us, who are 'getting on in years'... really remeber the whole Dick Van Dyke thing.... Personally, I laughed out loud at the humour in that comment. I thought, in fact it was ingenius! It wasn't really a way of making Dean look dumb as such, it was more a 'WTF would Dean even have heard about this man, he spent his whole life chasing monsters, not watching sugary sweet shows like Mary Poppins etc.... Sam, on the other hand, had time as a kid to watch these shows and know a more random lot of things to do with childhood, cause he had more of a chance to have a more normal one then Deans! Can you see my logic on this?

I think the vast majority of these moments are great, they break up the current whole hunting demon/ whatever themed storyline from week to week and show a more personal side to the differences between the two.... It's very sibling like, IMO!!! And usually very true to form. To have them with no flaws, absolutely perfect all the time would also insult them as characters and would over a period make them less appealing.... Taking out the idea, that you watch the show and them without drooling... which, I sadly sometimes really struggle to do....

this was a great ep... my sons favourite... He still sings Silent Night, Dean Style most every other day.... and we are in July....
