What's doing with "Cas"?

He is an Angel of the Lord. He is fierce. He is powerful. He is a warrior. He is the Angel of Thursday. He looks hot. His name is Castiel.

Now, when Dean started calling him Cas, I thought it's either a way for Dean to defy Castiel's and god's authority, or a way to show Castiel Dean has accepted him as buddy. But all of a sudden everyone, from Uriel, over Anna, to Sam calls him Cas. Do they want to save precious seconds, so they can get more dialouge in? Will Anna soon be Ann and Bobby Bob?
I like the sound of the name Castiel and I wish everyone, except maybe for Dean, because it's typical Dean not to, should call him Castiel again.
If I can muster the guts I'll ask the guys about that at the Con! (Or maybe someone else will for me ....)

I think it's weird, Dean started it and I understand it as he was getting along with him well, but Sam, Anna and others? lol It really doesn't mind me,tho but it's little bit weird as he met with Sam like two times. But Anna mmaaybe called him Cas since the beginning and maybe only few times Castiel ;P

Yes,you do that. I'm looking forward to you asking them. I hope we will go there soon enough that we could sit at least in the middle or in the first part of the hall. I know that ppl are gonna be crazy about seats.

Hm, interesting observation and what a funny way to put it, too. I hope to God Bobby doesn't turn into a Bob. I don't like it when people try to shorten names. Chris should be Christopher. Will should be William. Went should be Wentworth. Rob should be Robert. I could sit here and type for the entire day, making a list of all the names that have been butchered because people are too lazy to utter an extra syllable or two.

Actually I am not opposed to shortening names. My real first name is Alexandra, and everyone is calling me Alex, but my mother. It would be driving me crazy if everyone insisted on calling me Alexandra. I have heard of Alexandras, though, who saw it as a sign of respect if people took the time to say their whole name.
I vividly remember first grade in elementary school: We had to kind of draw or name, make it really nice looking and stuff. Even with 7 years old I thought "I'm not crazy, my full name has 2 times as many letters as my nickname. No way I'm gonna write the whole thing"

I like "Chris" and "Rob", too. But with Castiel it's different. He's an angel of the lord and people whose last name is not Winchester should show him respect. Plus as I said I really like the ring to Castiel.

LOL.... Yes indeedy.... the thought had crossed my mind too.... He's looking creepy enough appearing at the end of peoples beds in that trenchcoat.... then of course there's all those times he appears under faint lamp lights in garage/parking lots!!!
Hmmm.... A Cas would do that... but a Castiel.... I dunno.....

You know, I have to say that I hadn't really noticed everyone else callin him "Cas" except for Sam a few times. I suppose because it didn't really bother me that much, but now you have mentioned it, I kind of agree that everyone else should be calling him Castiel.

Dean, I think gives people nicknames, shortens their name as sign of acceptance, as someone mentioned above, its his way of shwing that he is comfortable enough with the person to become slightly informal.

Perhaps Anna calling him "Cas" comes from the years of familiararity with him, they have probably been together for centuries. And since she learned to feel, this is probably her way of expressing more human feeling towards Castiel.

I for some reason can't bring myself to call him anything other than Castiel, I don't feel I have the right to, lol

Its also my way of showing respect to the angel. Although I don't mind calling Sam, Sammy, I am so strange.

On a more personal note I think on some ocassions that shortening a name is a sign of friendship, especially when people shorten my name, which is Gemma, to either Gem or Gems. Only my family and friends shorten my name and it flatters me when someone feels comfortable to use my shortened name, once we get to know each other. I don't like it when complete strangers call me Gem right off the bat, that to me is an invasion into my personal space, because they don't know me and have no right to call me by that name. Of course its different on forums, I like to be called Gem.

Well, I used to have my own nickname for him, back when he first appeared: TOA : that obnoxious angel. I was mad at him for bossing Dean around. No one bosses Dean around, Dean is the one who bosses people around!

Kiki came up with calling him "Casty". Now that would have been funny, if they were doing that on the show.
