Jared PadaleckiAfter watching the repeat of the Supernatural episode "Fresh Blood" last night -- a privilege that I soon won't have since the CW will no longer be airing reruns -- I started to ponder something:  is there actually anything wrong with Sam?  One of the biggest mysteries in season 3 of Supernatural has been whether or not Sam (Jared Padalecki) is 100 percent "pure" after being brought back from the dead at the end of season 2.  The demon Azazel taunted Dean with the notion that Sam might have come back slightly changed, and we've seen numerous signs that he's not the same conscientious Winchester we once knew.  If something really is wrong with Sam, what could it be, and what does it mean for the future of the character?

I have no idea what it is, but I'm scared for Sam! I like him more than Dean (don't kill me ), and really don't want him to go evil long term or something. I don't mind short term, but I'll start to miss the old Sammy.

I'm also scared for Sam but the problem is that we can't actually know what he's thinking or going to do until he actually do it. If there is nothing wrong with Sam, if he's having some kind of emotional problems, then yes, he need to count on a friend, maybe Dean but if it's something else, then he will have to find a solution with the help from Dean of course. For now, I hope that both Sam and Dean will be all right because nothing can ever be as powerful as the bond between Sam and Dean.

I think Sam is just reacting to everything that has happened to him over the course of the last two years. Maybe he's discovered playing nice doesn't cut the muster in the Supernatural world and he's just determined to make sure he doesn't lose the only family he has left

I think Sam is going to have his powers come back with a vengeance, and that's how he's going to save Dean from the crossroads deal. Of course, that might end up being served up with a huge dollop of evil, and even require Sam to take over as leader of the demon army (or APPEAR to), but I think that, ultimately, Dean's moral upbringing of Sammy will win out and Dean will be saved from the deal. Sam will return to being MOSTLY his usual self--with perhaps a bit of leftover evil (or cynicism) that he can't quite shake!

I totes agree with robinv, Sammy's powers would probably start coming back in spurts along with phases of darkness. Ruby probably will try to play him to her advantage and that's when everything will hit the fan!

I think Sam is acting out of character because we're seeing him in full-on hunter mode. He's embraced the life, so to speak, and combine that with the fact that he's willing to do anything to save his brother with the fact that he's tortured over Dean selling his soul to bring him back to life... and you've got a recipe for disaster of epic proportions.

There is something wrong with Sam: I think he's seriously doubting his ability to save his brother. And that's going to be a major factor in the next move he makes (whatever that might be... spoiler-free at the moment). And Ruby's going to take advantage of his weaknesses to draw out whatever she's supposed to.

Either way, I'm anxious to see how it all plays out.

I don't think there is anything "wrong" with Sam. I think he has just had his eyes opened to the fact that sometimes in fighting evil you do have to get your hands dirty. As Ruby told him, there is collateral damage in war. Jake and the CR demon were evil and deserved to die. When Sam had to kill Casey he did show remorse and showed us the old Sam, saying there was a person in there.

I think the huge difference in Sam is him realizing that by not killing Jake when he had the chance, he not only got himself killed, but thru the CR deal his lack of decisive action was ultimately responsible for Dean dying and going to Hell. That is the pressing thought on his mind and he will do anything to save Dean... anything.

I don't think they will be mimicking Buffy to have their fears set aside and find out that Sam is Sam, solely. Kripke will put their own spin on it like they do in everything they give us. Sam is not evil, they may tease us that he is somehow wrong, but that will not turn out to be true.
