I have no problem with the addition of female Hunters... HOWEVER, the actresses that play them should not be the kind of physical type that has been cast in SPN this season, ie., Bella and Ruby.

For me, Ellen is the physical type they should go for. She LOOKS tough enough to actually do the tough physical work that a Hunter has to do. I'm sorry, nothing against Lauren or Katie, but they both look like a strong wind would blow them away. BUT if they MUST cast a size 2 actress, at the very LEAST give her a firearm that was designed to fit into a woman's smaller hand.

I think all the girls on the show have a hard time not because they are weak characters when they were dropped into the plot, but because the bond between Sam and Dean is so strong.
I have read in an interview with Eric K. that he can't quite figure out why the girls haven't worked yet...but it is so obvious. Jo hasn't worked as Dean's love interest because Dean only loves Sam in a completely none Wincester sort of way! What girl can possibly compete with this? Not for a one hour slot anyways, she'd need more time

Most shows consist of the typical Mulder & Scully archetype but Supernatural is different. I would love to see a reeeeeeeeeeally good female hunter turn up in the show one day, but I also know that even if she was like me and could kick ass (especially Dean's muahahahahaa) and drive a badass car and all that, that she would soon have to go. At the end of the day the plot is about Sam and Dean. Kripke got himself into this now he has to go all the way with it.

--and I fully agree with JdsgilBev! The girls on the show are cute and all, but only Ellen has what it takes so far to impress me. You can't have cute and pretty and be all Buffy like - that worked once, won't work again. Not for us female fans anyways

Going just a tad off topic but whilst we are on about hunters and Ellen in particular.... I am ever so glad that the Roadhouse burnt down... the whole idea about them all meeting in there all the men one side of the bar... drinking ale whilst they cleaned their weapons whilst the good woman little Ellen was the other side of it answering to their every whim... was just soooooooo wrong.... She deserves so much more then that!!!! That Roadhouse just had to go.... I prefer to think that the hunters... all of them are underground... staking out their prey not busy boozing down in their local!!!
Anyway.... Ellen will be more freed up now to support as a hunter friend to the boys now anyway....

Anyone else agree with this opinion...???

I am all with you there Smiley! That Roadhouse was silly but I never quite saw it that way until you described it - the guys on one side, the girls on the other, but know that you have pointed it out I would have gone and burned the shoddy place down myself

Hunting is an undergorund thing - what's next? A Union? Health Insurance?

I hope they give Ellen a bigger part in there - I mean Kripke is always complaing that the girls he puts on the show don't work out and then he is overlooking the one good female Warrior in there!!!!
They should give up trying to put cute girls on to attrack male fans, coz it's not working and the female fans just cannot identify with them.

Are there even male fans of the show? My best friend is gay and he even isn't a fan though I really though that he would like the boys!!! It is very confusing. Maybe they are too ...hmm...what's a good word now....hnnnnng......butch?

l nictly underground in the conventional sense of the word... but out of plain sight.... There's no way that this Roadhouse would have had the hunters call in there and all meet up after they did their bunch of kills.... Nope... just can't see them all comparing conquests... LOL!!! Nope the place had to go.... I'm just kind of sorry it also took a bit more Ash then it created.... LOL!!!
Ellen was really tied to that bar.... no way to get out and be a random ep helper to the boys.... she couldn't very well drop everything at the bar every second week to come pull the boys out of some scrape or another... she really needed to lose the bar.... Also the hunters all needed to be collectively warned....

BTW.... Jo and Dean.... was never going to work form the very start.... Those two boys might have their flings... but neither of them will ever settled down with someone they care about.... just too dangerous and anyway... the day they start getting it on with the girls in the back seat of the Impala will be a seriously black day for all us girlies.... Nope.... Nana... quick say something.... Help me think of happier thoughts... I'm going all depressed....

I don't mind female hunters on the show but I dislike the fact that they try to have the females be as bada** as Dean. Jo was like that and she came off more annoying to me than tough. Ellen is great because she's a strong woman who doesn't try to act hard or show-off how tough she is...you just know not to mess with her. I even dug Tamara (though she was in one ep) 'cause she was strong yet still carrying the pain and guilt over her lost child.

As far as Ruby and Bela. I don't like Ruby at all. She's not convincing as a hunter and there's something so weak about her...maybe it's just her acting, I don't know. Bela, I just absolutely love her, and I can believe her as a hunter not based on her physical strength but the way she can con people. Also a good part of hunting is being able to locate things and Bela is definitely skilled at doing that.

And I agree, the Roadhouse was just weird to me. A gathering of hunters just seemed like a big old target saying, "hey demons, here's where we hang, come and get us." I'd expect hunters to try to keep hidden or blend in, not stand out with their own hangout spot. I was actually surprised it didn't get burned down sooner.

..uuumm...the boys don't know it yet, but the reason why they never hit it off with any girls is that their bond is just too strong for ANYONE to come in between. Sometimes I like to think that Sammy is only adopted!

Tell you what - first time I saw Jo I honestly thought she was meant to be his half-sister. How they introduced her - making a mystery about her dad didn't help that at all. And her always playing with knifes! What girl needs to be so obvioulsy cool?
Dean needs a female version of Sam and vice versa for it to work.

oh yeah. I forgot about Ash - why couldn't he stay! He was a funny addition and would have given the Brothers plenty of opportunities for cool gags!
