One of the most controversial decisions made by the producers of the CW's Supernatural was to add two new female characters in season three. Bela (Lauren Cohan) and Ruby (Katie Cassidy) were brought in to stir up trouble for Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), but all they did was cause massive debates amongst Supernatural fans. We've had months to get used to their presence and to see if they add anything valuable to the show, so I think it's now safe to say what we've all been thinking: get rid of them, and do it quickly. To read the rest, click here.

Personally I don't mind the addition of the girls, but I do think we always need more Sam/Dean screentime.

The girls wouldn't bother me if they developed cool storylines for them. Make me want to know them. Right now, I don't, I just want them to go away and go back to the Sam/Dean bonding/rivalry.

Amen; I agree 100%! Bela irritates me beyond belief, and while Ruby's character might actually have something essential to add to the ongoing mythology at some point, the actress playing her doesn't quite carry off the sultry demon 'thang' as well as some of the other (crossroads) demon women we've seen, imo. But at least she doesn't grate on my nerves as badly as Bela does, grr. This season I have really missed that whole 'just me and thee' vibe between the boys, and one of the reasons "Fresh Blood" was my favorite episode thus far is because the boys were in tune with each other, worked in tandem, and much of what I first loved about the show was back in place.

This is article has summed up completely my feelings over the new cast additions. It sounded like a bad idea when it was first announced and I think it's been proved that it's really not working. Why is that TPTB for these shows seem so oblivious (I was going to say clueless but thought I'd be a bit kinder!!!) to what makes a show popular. There's a reason for the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" yet time and time again I've seen a winning formula messed with by those who believe they know better. Please, save us from these token one dimensional female characters (and from the horror of love interests in general!) and can we please concentrate on the demon hunting and the boys themselves....after all, that's what we all signed up for!!!

I half agree with you; I think that Bela needs to get ditched and now. Eric Kripke admitted in an interview that they were already planning to bring one female character in, and it's obvious now that it's Ruby. Ruby is the one who actually has the storyline, she's the "organic" addition, no matter how bad an actor Katie Cassidy is (and, in her defense, I don't think she's bad, she's just YOUNG, but thrown up against some seriously experienced and polished people like Jared nad Jensen and Jim Beaver's just making that inexperience shine through). Bela is the tag-a-long that needs to go, because she's useless and every time I see her, I feel like she's the tag-along shoe-horned in one. Drop Bela and worry about fine-tuning Ruby.

Hear hear! Finally.Although Ruby the character is interesting and a completely logical addition to the cast, Katie Cassidy can't act her way out of a paper bag. Perhaps the demon can possess someone who can?Bella's character is going nowhere. She's worse than a plot device, she's just boring. There may be a twist coming up to try to redeem her, but I can't imagine anything good enough to do the trick. Unless she dies to save Dean.

I couldn't agree with you more in pretty much everything you've said in this article. I was drawn into Supernatural by Sam and Dean almost exclusively, but the cool classic rock hasn't hurt. In season 3, we've pretty much had neither. I'm fast losing interest in this show. I've already foresaken Dean and found a new TV boyfriend on another show. They could still turn things around, but I feel that I already gave them a pass for the missteps they made (and mostly corrected) last season. Now it's becoming like Boston Legal--how many chances can I give one show? I gave up on Boston Legal in the middle of last season--not even on purpose. I just forgot about it and then never wanted to watch the episodes on the Tivo until I finally deleted them all. That has also happened to a few Supernatural episodes this season, except I didn't forget about them. I just didn't want to watch.I feel that so far, season 3 is not working. I'm not even sure it can be entirely attributed to the new cast m

Why does this cut off the comments? And squish it all together? To finish: I also dislike they way they've written Dean this season and do not like the overall story arc for season 3 *at* *all*. Since I also don't like the new cast additions, there's not much left for me to like about this show right now.
