The SopranosThe Sopranos creator David Chase wrote and directed last night's final installment of the long-running HBO mob epic, and he gave fans a relatively uneventful and, at times, bizarre send-off after six seasons of award-winning drama.  The ending is what everyone will be talking about (or, more likely, complaining about) this morning, but the whole episode deserves careful examination.  After the tension of last Sunday's spectacular entry, the finale felt like a toothless epilogue, an hour of anticipation with no pay-off.

I was fine with the ending. We were in fear with every moment, every stranger represented possible danger... in effect, we felt what it was like to be Tony Soprano, where you can't fully enjoy everyday events like having dinner with your family, as danger lies around every corner. Remember, even though we "liked" Tony, he is a bad guy and will never have a simple, "happy" life, even at the height of his success, and even while dealing with every day family issues.

I believe Tony was killed. First, the reference to when Tony and Bobby wondered whether you hear the bullet when it's for you-no sound. Two, The look on his face-it was a look of surprise and anger, but knowledge as well-he knew it could happen, not a look when seeing his daughter. Third, he was always the "stable" one in the family-now, things will change because of him. Finally, the music stopped. Tony is very focused on music-this is the first time there is no music i.e. no music for him to listen to, ever.

A BS ending to a BS last 2 years. I can't believe that comments on this cop-out ending use the words brilliant and genius. Hmmm, what is harder to write a credible ending or just fade out. I'm sorry, this wasn't a stoopid sitcom, it was a serial show that viewers invested 8 (?) years or so in and we deserved some resolution - even if not absolute.

Let's apply this "genius" to other tales"

* Kane makes no final reference to Rosebud, just a fade out
* The Earps and Stantons face off at OK Corral, but fade out
* Juliet doesn't die! the scene just fades
:Houston we have a problem!" .... fade

We saw this coming since the action on any of the shows this season could have happened any season. The scenes with Paulie and the mangy cat were hilarious, but could have happened whenever. A horrible (non-)ending to a very mediocre season. A real stinker - on par with the final M*A*S*H - and big disappointment.

The only reason

...continued

The only reason for this ending was to leave the door open for a sequel or movie. Insurance if Gandolfini's or Chase's career tanks.

Everyone has an opinion, and we are all free to share our point of view however lets try to keep an open mind. I liked the ending because I don't want it to be over, do you? My point is that the ending is important because David Chase leaves it open to the viewers interpretation. Maybe Tony was Killed or maybe life just goes on. We have all heard talks about a Sopranos movie, well I think if you we do get a feature film then obviously Tony lived if not then Tony was killed. Since I want more and hope to see a full length feature I am going with the idea that Tony lives and life goes on. Also consider the lyrics to the Journy song "don't stop believing" the lyrics say "no the movie never ends it goes on and on and on." Finally I think the ending was brilliant because everyone felt the tension and anxiety in the final scene, that was the whole point if you felt that tension you felt what it's like to be Tony, always looking over his shoulder. Watch it again and try to keep an ope

It just sucked, pure and simple sucked. David Chase owes me my fee for HBO. It's cancelled now.
