Michael RosenbaumThough the show has officially been renewed for another year, the CW has not had an easy time getting season 8 of Smallville off the ground.  First it was announced that Michael Rosenbaum and Kristin Kreuk would not be returning to the show full-time, leaving many fans worried about the lack of Lex and Lana next year.  Then, in an even bigger blow to the series, creators Al Gough and Miles Millar abruptly announced their departure last week.  The next season of the superhero drama will now be in the hands of four long-time Smallville writers.

With all of these issues plaguing the show's eighth season, we have to ask, should Smallville go on, or is it time to bury the kryptonite?

I think if they really wanted to save this series, they should've made this season better. Kill off whomever they were going to earlier and then maybe have Clark join the justice league....Cause this season just seemed like one big soap opera to me.

Although the season will finish with 20 episodes.. and the schedule was pretty much the same as previous Smallville seasons. Because of the strike it just didn't have that "final season" feel. This is the only reason i want to see an 8th season (although shorter than 22 episodes would be ideal). Mind you material wise, i wonder what they have left to do with some of their characters. I mean, i GUESS they could make Lana a werewolf?? She's been a vampire, a superspy and a witch... seems like the logical next step.

Smallville should have ended a couple of seasons ago. How long can you drag it out? How many times can Clark save Lana? Keep his id secret? Foil Lex? The last season should show they get to their destiny .

I've been less than impressed with the last two seasons of Smallville. Truthfully, the show really hit its peak in season three, and while it had a revival of decent storytelling and character development in season five, somehow the show has reverted to season one functionality. Which is why I wouldn't mind seeing it end this season. I can understand why the producers might want to end this series on a bang, but I don't see much bang in this show anymore. Shame, because there's always been such potential.

Smallville rocks, it should stay on as long as possible, and I think the writers will do a good job taking Gough and Millar's place. But it would be cool if they ended Smallville season 8 with a big movie!
