This is shocking but also could be a good thing. Under Gough and Millar the writing has been pretty retarded. Several given's still have not taken place yet at it is quite bad writing. For one, Clark Kent is STILL not wearing glasses. Clark should also don the tights and fly in the series finale... but since they just abruptly left, it is pretty clear they never meant to give fans this satisfaction. Finally, maybe Lana will just die (for good, not fake her death, come back to life or get weird black metal eyes) instead of become a witch, a vampire, a superspy with unlimited funds or sleep with a demon. F*ck i have a love-hate relationship with this show... Mind you the last 2 episodes which actually attempted tie together the past 5 seasons of twisted storylines have been VERY good.

forget about season 8. just end the series with a two-hour movie. a few members of the cast are ready to move on anyway. so perhaps even if gough and millar were to stay for next season, the ratings would still be down in the dumps due to absent cast members.

Well, I for one am surprised. The brain trust is leaving their baby. I wonder what will happen to their precious "Saint Chloe." Since Kristin is leaving, and the Clana is baslcally ruined, I don't plan on watching anyway. Tom and Kristin have the best sexual chemistry of anyone and the most amazing love story. I just hope that Tom can go on to other projects and that the series finale doesn't complete blow. Not that I'll be watching it.

i really hope this decision will finally lead to the end of the series. I've been watching the quality of stories on this show decline over the last couple of years. I think the only reason this show is still on the air is because the cw has no other popular show which is sad considering smallville only gets a couple of million viewers a week.

I hope the new writers will continue to make Smallville great and end the last seaon on a good note. This have been my favorite show for a long time and I don't want the last season to suck because the creators left the show.

I guess I wasn't the only one heartbroken over Kristin Kreuk leaving. It will be interesting to see where they go with the last season. I expect them to place the spotlight on characters like Kara to see if they can support a spin off series. I still hope the final season is at least decent, I'd hate for the series to go out on a sour note.

I've watched Smallville since the first season -- I have to believe that there are some creative differences involved -- maybe the --uh "Girls of Thursday' are a whole network philosophy that doesn't fit so well with a show based around THE ultimate hero -- I know I'm kinda sick of seeing Clark thrown up against walls. I watch for the heroes --on Smallvelle (and Supernatural) And good villians never hurt.

I, too, was completely floored when I read about this. Thought, as others, that it might be a late April Fools, but alas. So after going thru the stages of grief like Smallvillefotw, my theory is that several things have lead to Gough&Millar calling it quits. First: the switch to the CW from WB. It seems from my minuscule perspective on the couch that they've had issues since the switch, but have dealt with it because they've had to. Secondly, I think that even tho they have been SLOWLY been moving Clark towards accepting his destiny, I don't think that's what they ever had in mind for the show (their whole "No Flights, No Tights" philosophy) and the pressure I think is too much for them not to go there. So I think they were somewhat voted out on where to take Clark from now on. All the press releases and interviews have been perfectly 'PC' and positive about the forward motion of the show, but this kind of stuff doesn't come out of left field for the people actually involved, so I thi

so I think they've been thinking about it for a while. Even with all the promoting and signing for season 8. They've had to keep the front. Why they chose now to announce it, only TPTB know.... One last comment before I end my continuous rambling.... Some of the best written shows the last few seasons have been from Brian & Kelly, and Todd & Darren. So I have faith that they'll keep the show well written and entertaining, it just isn't the same vision that Gough and Millar started out with - we may actually get to see glasses, Clark as a reporter, tights, the works. We'll see........ Sad to see Gough and MIllar go, tho. They created a wonderful show!
