Smallville KaraAfter nicely tying up the events of the season six finale, Smallville is back with the much anticipated episode “Kara.”  I say much anticipated because the episode is the first really good look at Clark's (Tome Welling) Kryptonian cousin, Kara (Laura Vandervoort).  As with most shows on the CW, the inclusion of a hot chick seems like some sort of rite of passage Dawn Ostroff cooked up for incoming shows.  At least with Smallville, the character actually exists in the mythology.  The trial by fire is this:  will she feel natural to the show, or will she feel like window dressing wedged into to beef up the horny teenage boy demo?  Read on.

to me the inclusion of kara is like the inclusion of the green arrow. it's a bit of a change, but i really don't care too much. although since kara is related to clark, you actually end up learning a few more things about clark's late kryptonian family/relatives.

does it matter whether or not lex turns into a superbad villain?

what matters to me is that the acting is good and the shows entertaining.

the lex and lana scene (episode 2) was really good. kristin did a fantastic job. this scene made the show worth watching.

I was more intrigued by the possibility of Lana the clone (as opposed to the real Lana) returning to Smallville than be the introduction of Kara. Given Kristin Kreuk's reduced presence in the credits, this might finally be the year the endless Clark-Lana thing gets resolved. I've never liked the Supergirl character. Her very presence flies in the face of Clark's dilemma on Earth and makes him less special. However, if she can teach Clark to fly -- something that's being hinted at -- then maybe her time in Smallville won't be totally pointless.

I didn't mind Kara one bit-- Ok so I wished itw as Clark flying instead of her, but LV did a fantastic job so far. So no complaints there-- I especially liked the scene she's holding that kid up in teh air trying to question him. That was an "awww" moment for me. The rest of teh episode was just ok... nothing special-- the only Scene I really liked was the one between Lex and Chloe-- they always measure each other up and that was just awesome! I hope they have more scenes between Chloe and Lex. Lana, the whinning princess is back.. I guess I'll have to bear that! But Chloe, poor, poor Chloe being stumped on by that new DP editor! That was soo mean. I also like the fact that Lois and Clark were not fighting!

Bottom line is that it was a great episode. I think Kara is a nice addition and i dont think she will overshadow clark or the show at all. It was a great scene when she went to go fly away and clark grabbed her and slammed her down. im not a hage fan of chloe but i felt so bad because that new editor is a total jerk. You are so right, cecil44, lex needs to go back to being evil. im sure he will but i dont like his attack of conscience. and Im not wild about the lana clone angle cause i would have made her stay dead but she is gonna be around so...i guess we will see

i miss the old days, season 1 to 3, when there was no lois, and chloe was almost non-existent. but soon they pushed out pete and gave his role to Chloe, and we couldn't stop seeing her. all the fast talking and the sallow faces of both hers and lois' really just don't do it for me. kara isn't a cute as lana, but at least she looks ok. the show needs more attractive people. i don't exactly watch angelina jolie for her acting talent - if you know what i mean.

Jokerman, cecil check out the blog topic co-creator millar blah, blah blah. I have a theory on the whole lana clone thing and I don't feel like repeating cause it was alot. O.k. maybe not as much as cecil44 would write but enough. As for Kara, she was cool, I liked her. I like the fact that her and clark can teach each other things. She can fly, but that seems to be the only thing she has a handle on. He can teach her other things, like he did when he taught her how to use her super hearing and what their weakness is. Now she can teach him about krypton and HOW TO FLY!!

HOW TO FLY! Batfan114 now that is one thing I am really looking forward to. I hope that lawsuit thingi is straightened out, then we can get to see Clark fly! And I agree, the mentorship was just superb! Clark finally taking his dad's place! That was too cool. Finally! now I'm off to check the blog as directed.
