| I have to add some shows: First, Firefly. I never really got into Buffy or Angel. I watched a few episodes here and there but neither show became a must-see one for me. This was certainly not because they were bad but I just couldn't get into the premise. And I shamefully have to admit that I was always a bit wary of Joss Whedon's cult status and huge following. Add to that the fact that Firefly was set on a spaceship and therefore losely belongng to the sci-fi genre against which I used to have quite a few biases (see my earlier post lol). But during BSG's way too long hiatus and after having watched every season of Farscape I was kinda in the mood for another show set in space so I decided to give Firefly a try, especially since lured in by the false promise of space fights. And I have to say that I really like the show now. Then The Shield. I didn't use to be a big fan of police/cop shows, especially not if the main character is corrupt and ruthless and since I just feel uncomfortable when police brutality is justified with a by-any-means-necessary attitude. However, since i got the feeling that quite a few fans of The Wire also seem to like The Shield and I kinda trust fans of The Wire to recognize great TV, I decided to give The Shield a try when I found out that a friend had the DCD sets for the first and second season. And now I'm really hooked on the show, though I also have to admit that I personally find Vic Mackey and the Strike Team the characters in which I'm interested less than most other characters on the show.

Mine is Arrested Development. I remember passing it sometimes while changing the channel when it was still on air. I only started watching it after it got canceled. Almost everybody kept saying it's a great show, so I checked it out, and I loved it. The same goes for Attack of the Show. I love it more than the real news now. Haha....

My choice would have to be Medium and maybe Boston Legal as a runner up. When I first watched Medium it was definitely "meh". But after not watching again for awhile and then returning to it I've discovered it is a pretty good little show. It does annoy me that the main characters all have the same monotone, deadpan speech but the storylines are really intruiging and keep me watching week after week. I wouldn't watch Boston Legal at first because of William Shatner. C'mon- William Shatner?? But when I finally brought myself to watch it one night when there was nothing else better to do, I found that (cringe) he was really good! The show is full of laugh-out-loud moments and interestingly warped characters. And the bond between William Shatner's and James Spader's characters is priceless. Love it.

Yay, I fully support Boston Legal. One of the funniest, smartest, most obscenely liberal shows ever. And Medium is probably the best show everyone thinks sucks. The most recent episode with Rosanna Arquette was quite funny, yet dark and dramatic. I've been humming that "do, do-do, do-do, do-do-do" ever since.

I think Boston Legal is a lot of fun, but it's annoying that the Emmys keep trying to insist that it's a great drama series that deserves nominations every year. Curse you, Emmys!

Here's my understanding of the Emmy situation: once you receive a nomination in one genre, you cannot switch. Boston Legal indeed start out as a drama, but after that, it had to stay in its box. Also, while many episodes are comedic, the show is great at making one or two very dramatic episodes, giving Shatner and Spader huge spotlights, because the Emmys are actually based entirely on one episode, so all Spader needs is one solid dramatic episode and he wins (and has, twice for BL now). It's archaic, yes, but it's hard to figure out how to solve it. Do you add new categories for Dramedy? Shows like Gilmore Girls and even Desperate Housewives are in the middle of the road. There was a time when drama and comedy were totally unique, but we live in the modern era of TV, and the Emmys can't keep up.

Right now I'm totally hooked on Ladette To Lady. I thought it was going to be complete sh!te, but it's strangely addictive! It's only the first series here in Oz, and only the second episode has been shown (on free to air TV), so it got me right from the start. I'm also a big Big Brother fan. Our next one starts in two weeks tonight! ![]()
