Laura Roslin from BSG because even though she's President now she was once (and on New Caprica again) a teacher so she technically counts

Also Prez from The Wire. I know he didn't start out so well but that might very well be because he was an inexperienced teacher in a messed-up inner-city school. But he tried his best, he was dedicated to his work IMO. And upon seeing him in the series finale, he seemed to have finally gotten the hang of things. Then again, for some reason I like him in general.

Mr. Moore from Head of the Class and Mr. Feeney from Boy Meets World. Both of them seemed to really love teaching, but beyond that, they were like mentors to their students. They helped those kids with lessons that exceeded the classroom.

Definitely Prez from The Wire. The moment I saw him enter that school I was like, yeah, he's gonna be great. It's like he met those kids where they were at and taught them on a level in which they could not only understand the material, but also enjoy it. Plus, the care and attention he gave to Duquan was so beautiful (and in the end, heartbreaking) to watch.

Also Bunny Colvin from The Wire (though I'm not sure if he was officially considered a teacher by the school). He had a similar teaching stye to Prez of meeting the kids where they were at and teaching them on a level they'd understand but Bunny could do what Prez couldn't in season 4: handle the violent students. Bunny was fearless yet at the same time respectful of where those kids had come from and the world in which they lived.

Wow Gina, I didn't think anyone liked Riley but me. And I forgot Laura Roslin was a teacher once. Add her to my list.

Oh come on, Riley wasn't good enough for Buffy! I was glad he was gone after one season.

Lila, you are awesome. How could I forget Laura Roslin and Prez! Prez, as a cop, was one of my favorite characters, and I adored him as a teacher. And Bunny Colvin is a good choice to. Bless you, fellow fans of The Wire.

And Mr. Moore and Mr. Feeney! You people are geniuses. I freaking LOVED Head of the Class.

As for Don and Gina: you liked Riley, and as such, are temporarily dead to me. If you must pick a Buffy teacher, go for the real teacher, Maggie Walsh. Her character was sadly killed off too quickly, but any actress who was once married to the Playwright extraordinaire David effing Mamet is aces in my book.

How could I forget those things about Prez? (I hope my season 4 DVDs will arrive soon as I so need to rewatch that season) But yes, I really liked it how he met the kids where they were at and tried to make learning a somewhat positive experience for them, linking the curriculum to their everyday life and not teaching on some abstract level which would guarantee that the students lose interest pretty fast. I have to admit though that I was a bit skeptic about him in the beginning, but only because he felt a bit too naive to me so I was glad that he later found a way to get along with the class and work with them.

And I definitely have to agree on Bunny too. I didn't consider him as a teacher at first though because he seemed to be more some kind of social worker to me.

I so started back watching from season 1 right before the last ep of The Wire aired. I'm still not ready to let go and season 4 is the season I've watched the most.

You see I wasn't but that's because when he first came to the Barksdale case he seemed pretty incompetent (shooting the wall, shooting up his car, blinding that kid). He was a train wreck but when he started working on those codes, he got really focused. Then when he was explaining the codes and how he'd broke it, I realized how good he is at that ...you know, trying to decipher something and then explain it (hell, he had my undivided attention at the time). So I was pretty sure he'd be a good teacher as soon he deciphered the problem of getting them to listen.

And yeah, both Prez and Bunny had their lesson plans connected to something the kids could relate to. Like Prez used what he knew the kids were into (cards and dice) to teach math and Bunny had the kids bringing their corner logic into it to teach them how to work together and be a part of a classroom setting. It was brilliant.

Personally.... I loved ALL the teachers from Fame..... Yes even the 150 year old music teacher with the cobwebs hanging out of him!!! Even though I did not and never will have either one single ounce of co-ordination in my body OR a single glimpse of a ballet dancers physique..... but...On the odd occasion now, when I hear one of those songs or when I am reminded of the show.... I just wanna do cartwheels, backflips, splits, ballet moves.... as well as operatic singing... to full lung capacity..... LOL!!!

'' You want fame... Well fame costs.... and here's where you start paying........ With Sweat!!!! ''

Classic stuff..... You younger forum users... missed out on the thrill of a lifetime... not watching that show!!!

Well, I rewatched up to the first few episodes of season 4 before season 5 started. But unfortunately I had only the first three seasons on DVD and I really need the subtitles to get everything. That's why I just decided to wait with a complete season 4 rewatch until I get the DVDs. However, I stopped watching before Prez had the idea with using the dice game to relate math to the children and shortly after the one girl got her face slashed in class, when Prez was just watching that whole situation kinda helpless.

Heh, I realize I totally didn't explain myself well. I actually agree with you, I never doubted that Prez had what it takes to be a good teacher. It was just that I felt that he needed some time to find his way into getting the children to listen and pay attention after they were acting up initially. In the beginning, during his first days and weeks, I had the feeling that he didn't expect that teaching in an messed-up inner city school was so hard and I think he wasn't prepared or expecting a classroom situation like the one he found. But once he adjusted to situation and found a way to get the children interested in the subject he tought (sp?), he became a good teacher.
