Default 1/2/08 Role Models

Which TV character or actor or actress do you think is the best role model? Why?

T-Bag!!!

Ahum... scratch that...

I don't think I can name one person who's best, but there are characters I truly admired while watching their shows. Like Buffy and Xena; two women who knew how to kick ass! Strong women... A part of me wanted to be like that too...

Another character I really admired was Dr. Michaela Quinn (Dr. Quinn, yes...). One of the first female doctors in the 19th century. Loved it how she fought for what she believed in; how she dared to stand up for the rights of surpressed groups. Another very strong and passionate woman...

Jee, I almost sound like a feminist... For the record: I'm not! But I like a little bit of woman power here and there...

I think Veronica Mars has been a pretty good role model. She had to fight against so much adversity and she still came out on top. The girl certainly ins't perfect, she lets revenge get in the way of better judgement at times, but as far as someone being able to stick up for themselves as well as being motivated to do things outside of vegging out of the couch, she's your girl.

Lorelia Gilmore, is a fairly good role model in my opinion as well. Once again, a character who is certainly not perfect, but she carved out her own life her own way and thats something. She walked away from the easy path in order to be herself and not only survived, but thrived. And despite possibly ruining her life by having a child so young, she managed to make her dreams and her daughters dreams come true. Rory was probably the best thing that happened to her and she makes sure her daughter knows it.

Word to the strong women role models! For the record, I *am* a feminist, and I love when there are interesting, strong female characters on TV who might be flawed but try their darnedest to be fabulous and kickass, whether they hunt for vampires, write for the newspaper (I'm looking at you, Chloe Sullivan), and are great parents too.

I agree with Robyn. Both Veronica Mars and Lorelai Gilmore are good role models! For younger and older people as well.

I think Lt. Anita VanBuren of the original Law & Order is a terrific role model. Woman in charge, good mother, respected leader.

I think I have to agree with everyone who mentioned Veronica Mars. Yeah, she wasn't perfect but she still didn't give up despite the many unfortunate things that happened to her and she managed to stand up for herself.
