Pushing Daisies deserves success.  So does Friday Night Lights.  So did Veronica Mars.  Why shows don't achieve the status that their quality should dictate is an accepted aspect of the TV landscape.  Things just work that way.  Shows are marketed wrong, they don't appeal to the right audience, they're scheduled against CSI: Scranton, etc.  Pushing Daisies hasn't even premiered and given its high-concept premise, its whimsical delivery of dark subject matter, and no-name cast, it appears possible (probable, even) that the show is primed to be this season's “Show that Everyone Loves But No One Watches”, despite the fact its the best new TV show of the season.  Is this sort of cynicism healthy?  Is it misguided?  Am I jumping the gun?

I completely agree. I'm so sick of any show that is even remotely originally dying in the flawed ratings system. Look at Wonderfalls, that show was brilliant and got 4 aired episodes. Firefly is another one. A space western? Sounds good to me, but apparently the average American doesn't care about smart written, originality or good quality. So long as its a doctor or cop/forensic show or a reality TV series everything is peachy for them while anyone with a even a modicum of intelligence is left suffering for their lack of taste.

Even with all of the positive reviews, I'm pretty much "meh" on this one. I'll give it a look, but don't have my hopes up. Without seeing an episode yet, it just doesn't really resonate with me. Sure it's fresh and original, but just because something is different and original, doesn't make it a pleasure to watch. It's the reality of TV, it's got to get people to watch, or it doesn't make it. TV's a business. Sometimes I'm frustrated by it (in the case of long gone great shows such as Freaks and Geeks, and unfortunatlely looking more and more like Friday Night Lights), and sometimes it doesn't (like Arrested Development). It's a matter of personal taste..and there's always PBS..

'despite the fact its the best new TV show of the season' - don't forget the apostrophe, don't forget the apostrophe. Thanks.

I too want to see Pushing Daises do VERY well, because it's imaginative and different, which is what we're always looking for.

It isn't always the case. Just look at Lost. Popel said it was doomed to fail. Save Lost websites started before the show even began. The difference between Pushing Dasies, Veronica Mars and Friday Night Lights is that those two shows came out of nowhere and surprised people. Pushing Dasies has been buzzed all summer, so it should get a good audience for the 1st episode at least.

How did The Nine do when it first aired last year?
