The pilot for Pushing Daisies was a stunning accomplishment.  For those who enjoyed it, anyways.  Much to my surprise, the reviews for the Pushing Daisies have been mixed.  Not from critics (who mostly love it), but from my friends, some of whom are clearly cynical, cynical people.  However, love it or hate it, one of the biggest issues to arise after watching the ABC pilot is this: how can Pushing Daisies keep it up?  That is, how can the lush visual style, the constant wit, the overwhelming whimsical feel of Pushing Daisies remain intact from the second episode on?  I have no idea what to expect come Wednesday, but it's not going to be as good as the pilot, nor will it be structurally similar.

We'll just have to wait and see on this one and go from there. I have no idea what exactly to expect, but Lee Pace has already made me fall in love with his character so I plan on sticking it through this one.

I'm slightly worried too. My dad and grandma watched and were not impressed either. While I never expected them to be, it tells me that a whole lot of people watched the pilot based on buzz, and if as many were disappointed as it seems, the numbers could drop dramatically in week two. The only good thing is the total lack of competition. The FOX crappy sitcoms and three reality shows are what it's up against.

My boyfriends mom did not get the pilot. She didn't understand why if Ned touches someone and someone else dies in their place, why should he not be able to touch the original dead person? Someone already took their place. She was annoyed by the logic LOL. What can you do. I have found the "older" generations (and I mean no disrespect by this, but its just a trend I've noticed and it certainly has its exceptions) aren't impressed with the sort of quirkiness this show offers. They like their ERs and CSIs, not so much the weird, oddball shows.

For what it's worth, I've seen the second episode and I think the creators did an amazing job at keeping up all the aspects of the pilot that I loved. The writing, the acting, the unique visual execution...all there!! What I love about the design of the show is that the creative elements are juxtaposed with the macabre subject matter and the second episode fulfills on that. I'm interested to hear what you all have to say after seeing it on Wednesday.

I thought it was the most original idea put forth this season on TV. I am concerned that it won't live up to the 1st episode, but I will still watch to see what happens.

Don't blame Fuller if you don't like the procedural aspect; ABC insisted upon it so that "Pushing Daisies" would rerun better than serialized programs. And the pilot did sort of have some procedural in it: the guy murdered by the dog, and the Who killed Chuck? mystery. Even looking at Fuller's former shows, they both had strong episodic elements to them: the figure-out-the-muses mystery of the week on "Wonderfalls" and the individual stories of the reaped on "Dead Like Me." I'm not worried.

I'm excited for the next episode. Wonderfalls is amazing and I trust that Pushing Daisies will be as well now that I've seen the pilot.
