Pushing Daisies is unequivocally the best new show of the TV season.  Tonight's premiere episode is the most impressive network pilot since Lost, and is the most original piece of television since who knows when.  It is an astonishing feat that Pushing Daisies was even made.  Created by Bryan Fuller (creator of beloved, short-lived Wonderfalls), Pushing Daisies follows Ned, a pie-maker, who has the ability to bring dead people back to life.

While Pushing Daisies deals with mortality and death at all turns, it is portrayed in a hopeful, light manner.  The show is quirky and witty, laugh out loud funny at times.  The jokes are never sitcom-y, though, and come from character and story.  Death is dealt with matter-of-factly, humorously, beautifully even, while never belittling the characters.  The show has soul and heart, the likes of which I can't remember ever seeing on TV.  If my gushing here seems unnecessary, it's not.  If I were to write a straight up recap of the pilot, Pushing Daisies might seem morbid and hopelessly dark.  It's anything but.

One question, if both the main characters share a kiss at their parents funeral then why did Chuck not die then, apparently Ned already had the power, what did I miss here?

Gloriously beautiful show! I'm going slightly bonkers trying to remember exactly when and where I've heard that same narrator do something else in this style that I also loved. But this is so brilliantly balanced and full circle in its surrealism. Nuance is so wonderfully tucked into the insanity. For example, the reason Ned becomes a pie maker isn't just because he can make the fruit fresh and ripe ... it is also because his mother was baking a pie when she dropped dead in the kitchen. When he revived her she thinks she just slipped and gets up to take a perfect pie from the oven. This is one of those shows you can watch over and over and keep picking up on delightful tidbits scattered for fun and meaning. Definately a "don't delete ever" option for TiVo at our house.

I am thrilled to finally see something this creative, quirky and endearing on TV. I have a new TV crush and it has been awhile!

To the person who was wondering who the narrator is: I'm pretty damn sure it's the same guy from "Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy."

This show is wonderful! If ABC can keep up this type of quality it will be the number one hit of the season.

I loved this show. Jim Dale is the voiceover narrator ("Is that Jim Dale?... It IS Jim Dale! Woo hoo!"); he did the Harry Potter audiobooks and also did some narration in the HP movies as well. Anyway, I don't think people dying has been this funny since Dead Like Me. I'll add this to my list of shows I'll be watching for the fall season.
