An Ode To Prison Break

It's been over two months since my beloved Prison Break (my favorite show) came to an end after four brief seasons. I have yet to see the last feature length episode, now currently on DVD and Blue Ray, but I can't wait. I long for some kind of spin-off, and am frustrated that the producers did not think to create one since there were many opportunities, but everyone kept dying off. I think it would have been excellent if T-bag and Christina would have joined forces to wreak some havoc on the world, for the longest time just knew Abruzzi was coming back, after all he wasn’t really dead, of course those paramedics were really mob men put in place to whisk him off to a safe haven in Sardinia where he would be nursed back to health by an excellent Mob doctor and late join forces with Mike and Linc on order to exact his revenge, right? I probably spent the better part of three seasons morning the loss of the first seasons cast. I‘ve always wondered if Paul Sheuring stayed true to his original five year arc, not that did not enjoy the seasons 3 and 4 or the cast, who can forget Gretchen, but Season 1 was the best and season 4 carried some of the same energy. Truthfully the show always had a way of introducing bad guys (and girls) you loved to hate, and hated to love. Prison Break introduced and made use of some of the most multidimensional villains I’ve ever seen, without trying to change them, except for Kellerman (and it worked). I enjoyed the depth of the characters and their multi layered personas. I will miss seeing the pretty face Michael Scofield, the brusque handsomeness of Linc, and sexy, sexy Sucre, each week and will have to find another way to get my Wentworth fix (yes he’s my favorite), but alas where there’s a will there’s way. I think this show was innovative in so many ways, the characters were well balanced and although the men numbered in the majority the female energy was never overshadowed and sustained the shows equilibrium ( thanks Sara). Prison Break, I think will be a show remembered for showcasing some of the best acting on television, giving us hot guys to look at, and consistently giving us innovative story lines that kept us guessing (whoever thought of blueprints in a tattoo?);more than that Prison Break has given us four seasons of rocking DVD’s to relive our favorite scenes and visit out favorite characters again and again and again…Jamillah Nicole for HRTR

I, too was like you when I first watched the show.... I was a truly devoted fan of the show... TBH, the reintroduction of Sara character into S4 knocked that right into touch... it lost all creability for me and ceased to become a 'good' show from that point. Not because SWC is a bad actress or that Sara character is a dumb one, but rather how insulting it was to us fans on how the character got reintroduced after apparently dying a death just to appease some of the shows fans... I for one never really got the whole MiSa relationship, for me it wasn't there.... but for others it was so apparent....

So from that point I was only watching it out of loyality... almost as if I were going to see it thru til the end... For the record, I though only first two seasons were good... S3 had the makings of a great season, potentially good characters like Whistler, Lechero & Sammy had their stories mainly wasted... Lechero's death was Supernatural's gain cause we then had him pop up in that, but honestly, I would have loved to have seen his story on the outside.... it was a more compelling background story on a whole then say CNote's or even Sucre's ever was.... and Sammy, well would have been gret to see him do a bit more evil.... he was a true baddie in the show, but was entirely snuffed out too early... And well, you won't know of my devotion to the lovely Chris Vance and his Whistler character.... I cried buckets of tears when he was killed off so early in S4... If I'm honest though, I saw it coming.... He's a good actor, who needed to branch out a bit... S4 did not go all the way what they said it would do end of S3.... No Michael chasing after Gretchen for slaying his Sara.... other then the bit at the start.... which looked quite odd.... no big Jason Leif storyline... nada.... just Sara's return.... that completely compromised the story and honestly.... pretty much killed the show!!!

And then there was Wyatt, the resident baddie this S4.... He was feared by all at the beginning of S4.... killing Mahones son melted my hert... that actually made me cry.... Mahones handling of that situation was amazing.... brilliant acting was required by WF to see that thru and he didn't let anyone down!!! Wyatt's murder was good.... a part of me wanted him to die the most horrible of deaths for what he did to Mahones family and to others, but another part of me wanted him to somehow survive and to come back stronger.... as from that point, I truly feel the show lacked a real evil baddie! The General frightened nobody.... I dunno... just saw too much of his character and Gretchen, well she from the point of Sara's return was like a neutered dog.... she was pretty much lacking in any credability from then on..... she certainly didn't frighten me anymore....

In truth, the show did do some surprising turnarounds.... Bellick character for one, was one of the better ones.... Sucre finally had a bit more to do... and Lincoln finally grew a backbone.... but honestly, without Sara, Michael was more focussed more avenging.... more set on total destruction and downfall of the company... with her about he was like Jelly.... total opposite in a big way.... I was kind of disappointed with Michael's character for the whole of S4.... but I guess that's just me...

In truth we were missing the Kellerman's, the Abruzzi's, the Haywire's .... etc.... towards the end.... way too many were just plodding along with a muted story for me.... In a big way I am sad to see it all end, but in another way, I'm actually happy to see it all go!!!

Welcome to the threads, HRTR...
Hope you have fun on here!!!

Thanks for the poll

I voted Michael because in Season 1 I loved the cocky and confident Michael and watching his character chip away and see the scared and vulnerable Michael. I feel it was those weakness which made him real. The relationships he made along the way with Sucre and Dr Sara, the good guys versus the bad, and the whole desperation to save his brother at any cost. For this Michael has to be my number 1. I cant imagine any other actor playing the part of Michael as Wentworth made him his own and for that im glad the casting went to Wentworth, it made me tune in for all 4 Seasons.

I would have loved a spin off following a new direction but with some of the same cast. In the UK years ago we were huge on Only Fools and Horses, I know it was a comedy but years on from it finishing there was a spin off with two of the fav characters and people tune in and love it. I think what im trying to say is I live in hope that we see Michael, Sara, Linc and Sucre etc in the future as with such a huge show with great actors and the correct writing they could be ressurected.

Where else could this show have gone though? Even the cast themselves started tiring of it at the end.... it was benefiting no one to have it keep going on... dying a long and lingering death.... The good Prison Break story ended in or around end s2, mid way through s3... before writers strike.... S4 was a complete waste.... Only the truest and most devoted fan of the show will even bother picking either season up on DVD.... I dunno yet ... if I really want to sully up my memory of two classically great seasons like the first two with either boxset of s3 or even 4 on my DVD shelf.... and that's even with my beloved Whistler in it....

season 3 and 4 weren´t necessary. I still miss a season 2 happy ending.
I love Prison Break but one prison after another got annoying. Michael got his brother out in season one. He got Sara in season 2. They should have been a big happy family. That´s how I imagine it.

But since I also love MiSa I got the season 4 dvd box set since they were in it.
I´m not sure about getting season 3 yet. Maybe I buy it just because of Went since I appreciate his work.

I voted for Michael and Sara.
