Default William Fichtner cast as the lead in TNT's Night and Day

William Fichtner has been tapped as the lead in TNT's drama pilot "Night and Day."

Also cast in the project is "ER" alumna Sherry Stringfield.

Written and executive produced by "24" co-creator Joel Surnow and Todd Robinson, "Night" is a fast-paced, gritty drama about the life of Dan Hollister (Fichtner), an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms who works for a special threat intervention task force.

Stringfield will play Dan's wife and emotional anchor Elizabeth, a stay-at-home mom.

For Fichtner, "Night" is in second position to Fox's "Prison Break," where he plays FBI Agent Alexander Mahone. Surnow's relationship with 20th TV, which produces "24" and "Prison," helped Fichtner land the "Night" role.

On "Prison," Fichtner doesn't have a deal beyond this season. For now, there are no plans to kill off Mahone, though the series is known for quickly knocking off its characters.

Fichtner is repped by WMA and Brillstein Entertainment. Stringfield, who recurred on HBO's "Tell Me You Love Me," is repped by APA.

The "Night" castings follow TNT inking Jada Pinkett Smith for its other drama pilot, "Time Heals."

Its nice to see that William cares more about PB than that new show. I guess when he gets word that their killing him off, he'll get ready to start that show.

From what I've heard the pilot is already shot. That's why WF isn't in episode 14 of PB (or 15; can't remember). Can't remember where I read it though. Maybe on one of WF's websites... Anyway, if he's already filming this, I hope he can find a way to combine the two shows. I'd really hate to see him leave PB... But of course, sometimes it's time to do something new...

I don't think the pilot is shot yet, last I heard they didn't have a script. The whole series is contingent upon his role in Prison Break. I don't think they know what they're doing with that yet. Realistically he could do both shows, if both networks could come to an agreement, but I'm not really seeing that happen. Most likely it will be after PB.

WF getting in a lead in an action show, that's a brilliant idea, can't wait to see that!

Okay, someone gave me this link: http://www.cinemaspy.ca/article.php?id=1513

If I read it correctly, the pilot was being shot at the time this article was being written. Or they were at least starting to shoot it. I'm really curious what this will mean Bill's character on PB. I hate to see him go, but I have to admit: this new show doesn't sound so bad either. I'm really curious about it and it's good to see that new projects keep coming his way!

I think PB will be done after this season, so it will be great to get more WF next fall in his own show!
