Why does Scofield know he can get a screw in the prison?

As you guys know, he need to get out of his cell from the commode. He uses a screw to open it, which he got from a chair on the rest ground. My question is that how he knows he can get this? Otherwise, what could he do?

He knew everything about the prison....who made everything etc....he had all the plans for the prison

He figured that if he used a screw like that and make it in the right shape it would fit in the toilet so he could get it loose. Like said above, he had all the plans and knew exactly where to find what he needed.

He knew everything, right down to the brand of screw. I mean, he could have literally built that entire prison himself, from what he learned about it. It's all in the research.

In prison, with a face like that I think it's safe to say he'd be guaranteed a screw.
