| William Fichtner Interview Spoiler By Kara Warner I love telling actors, "God, you were so freakin' good in that." The name William Fichtner might not ring a bell at first thought. His face, however, is instantly recognizable and calls up a resume full of blockbusters, broad comedy, drama, thrillers, etc. This man has a history of great work in a wide variety of projects; films like Armageddon, The Longest Yard, Black Hawk Down, Blades of Glory, and Fox's hit TV series, Prison Break. His latest is a fun little comedy, The Amateurs, co-starring Jeff Bridges, Joe Pantoliano, Ted Danson and Patrick Hugit. The film is about a group of misfits in a struggling small town who decide that the sure-fire solution to their financial woe is to make an adult film. We were fortunate enough to chat with Fichtner recently about his experience making the film (one he deems his best ever), bonding with his fellow cast members, the art of raunchy comedy and his involvement in another little film, The Dark Knight. [Note: we *did* ask him about Prison Break, but it was right before the strike ended, so he had no news to report, only the desire to get back to set and away from his yardwork.] UGO: Well first of all, how did [Director] Michael Traeger assemble this great cast? William Fichtner: I don't know how he did that but I'll tell you this much, I read the script about a year before the movie was shot and Aaron Ryder, our producer on it, Aaron had the script and my manager sent it to me, I read it and I called my manager and said, "Anytime they make this movie, I want to be a part of it." What happened was almost a year after that, Jeff Bridges came onboard and I heard that he was going to play Andy and that's all I needed to hear. UGO: Tell us a little bit about your character, Otis William Fichtner: Otis, he's just that town misfit as they all kind of are. There's not a cool one in the bunch, they're just such good buddies. That's really what I loved about it, when it all came down to it they were just good buddies. Otis is the custodian at the church and as he says, when he speaks to Jeff, "people really aren't his cup of tea," but he's just got some oddball sensibilities. UGO: What sets this film apart from the other raunchier comedies out there right now? William Fichtner: It was a group of guys that was just really unique and special. Some of the language in there and the things they talk about are a little raunchy, but the thing that I love about [is] they're just kind of a bunch of misfits. These guys were obviously friends their entire lives and here we are, a group of actors, most of whom had only met each other once, if at all. So what they did was, Jeff Bridges has a beach house and the Thursday before [we started work] that Monday, Joey [Pantoliano], Ted [Danson] Tim Blake Nelson, Patrick Fugit, myself, Jeff, Mike Traeger, Aaron Ryder our producer, we all went to the beach house [for two days] and rehearsed on the beach with our feet in the sand, just eating and having great wine. We spent this time together and it was such a wonderful idea. ... it was a real commitment to bring that sort of friendship to it and out of that, a bunch of people that I'll talk to forever. As much as I love the movie and I do, it was the experience on this one that I will take away. It's probably my favorite time I've ever had working on a film. UGO: What can you tell us about your work in The Dark Knight? A couple folks here got a little taste of your scene at the bank... William Fichtner: You know, the only scene you're going to see me in is the one in the bank. Aaron Ryder, our producer for The Amateurs, is good friends with Chris Nolan, he produced Memento and The Prestige. I've met Chris a couple of times and he called me last spring and asked me if I would come in and play the scene that opens up the film, [so] he sent me the pages and I read it and said, "Yeah, let's do this uncredited," and that's all it is, just a little pop in the film because I really like Chris and I was glad to be a part of it. UGO: How was your experience shooting with Heath? William Fichtner: Well I'll tell you something, doing those couple of days in Chicago and getting to meet Heath, I couldn't wait to tell him how amazing he was in Brokeback Mountain, that's what I remember. I'm so inspired when I see actors do things where they go to new places, and he did in that and it was really amazing work and I'm really excited I had a chance to tell him that. I love telling actors, "God, you were so freakin' good in that," so, God bless him. Credit Speedy - Soraya Pb Redemtion & hodaharb fron PBreakFans

| Ah, thanx for posting that Lala! I love the part about Heath... BTW, I watched the movie "Equilibrium" last night! Woohoo! Such a cool movie in my opinion... I was surprised to see Dominic Purcell in the first scene! LOL! But I watched/bought the movie because of William Fichtner of course... I loved William's part in this movie, despite the fact that he only appears in 3 or 4 scenes. But the movie rocks anyway! Again, my opinion...XXX |

| ^^ Well, not really together... Dominic's character is killed off in the first scene of the movie... Still, he looked hot! A bit like he did in "Blade: Trinity"... I don't know if you've seen that movie. And William looked good too of course... He always does, one way or the other...XXX |

| ^^ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equilibrium_(2002_film) Just read the 'plot'... it explains very well what it's about. The movie does remind you sometimes of movies like "The Matrix" and "Minority Report" in my opinion, but still; I loved the movie... XXX |
