Exclusive Interview: James Lafferty of 'One Tree Hill'

Nathan Scott has certainly been involved in his share of drama during the fifth season of One Tree Hill. He started off the year extremely bitter and angry due to an injury, then moved on to a storyline that found him flirting with the diabolical and dangerous nanny Carrie. His marriage almost fell apart, and he nearly became the type of neglectful father he never wanted to be. Even when Nathan is going through rough times, actor James Lafferty always finds a way to make his character seem likable, relatable, and down to earth. He's the type of guy you can't help but root for, no matter how many mistakes he's made.

We recently had a chance to sit down with James to discuss the future of his character, as well as the shocker that awaits fans in the season finale. Read on for the mp3 and complete transcript of the interview.

Thanks for the interview with JL. He seems like a cool guy and fun to work with. I do think Dan is out of the picture for getting his sons to forgive him but we will see what happens. I would love if JL would do a movie so we can see him on the big scene. Maybe next year.

A little controversy? The nanny storyline tore apart the fandom and I was thiclose to quitting the show. The NH relationship is the only reason I continue to watch this show and to have the integrity of that relationship be compromised for some extremely disgusting storyline really pains me. I never realized James wanted his character to come across as a dirty cheater simply because it was "fun" as opposed to a loving husband and father. Plus, it's not like the first time Nathan's ever made mistakes (even though I think mistake is too tame for the nonsense he pulled this year), but this is the first time where I honestly felt that Nathan's actions were completely unforgivable. The only way I'm able to continue watching this show is to forget this whole season (well the past two seasons) has ever happened and remember how Nathan and NH used to be in Seasons 1-3. I'm just so incredibly annoyed how Nathan's infidelity this season is being treated so flippantly...but I guess that's show bu

Well James himself likes to screw around so his answer doesn't shock me. He does not know what it is like to be in a marriage, so of course he enjoyed flirting with the nanny. You suck James, and I used to be a fan, lmao!!!

James is a jerk and isn't good to his fans who wait 5 hours to see him. Chad is the nicest guy ever!

James is totally not a jerk. He spends so much of his time doing good things for charity it's unbelievable and he may hurry his fans off, but that's only because he has so many to sign and he wants to get to them all. Chad is the one who cheated on Sophia with an extra, to me THATS the jerk.

James is great, and I was reading your comment OTHFan30 about how you never realized James wanted his character to come across as a dirty cheater, well that's not what he's saying. "it just adds to the fun of playing the character when he makes a poor decision like that."< He's stating that his character is more fun when he makes wrong decisions in general like the daunte incident. Each actor has there own cultivating roles and maybe his is a dirty cheater, but so what, there are some people who prefer the drama and excitement that comes with being the bad guy, you must learn to accommodate to the many roles of acting because that is what makes a true actor.
