It took me by surprise last night when series creator Mark Schwahn randomly dropped in on One Tree Hill to offer Peyton romantic advice. Schwahn had been on the show once before in season 4, but it's still a little strange to me for the overlord of the series to cast himself in a minor role. Even weirder, he played the role of the wise sage who helped Peyton get back on her never ending quest to snag Lucas. Was Schwahn's role too self-indulgent and distracting, or is it perfectly normal for a creator to show up in front of the camera? To read the rest, click here.

why is everyone up in arms about this? this wasn't the first time that the character max was on. he was in a s4 ep, too, where lucas had the heart attack.

It was weird and very funny but it was not distracting seeing him there. Shows have not up to par actors all the time, its no big deal.

Honestly, if it weren't for you mentioning it, I wouldn't have even known who that dude was. I just figured it was some random character from the past who I didn't recognize because I didn't watch before this season. While I do think casting yourself is a bit self-indulgent, it was in keeping with the tone of the entire episode, which was every self-involved, with the carefully worded transitions between scenes and the constant navel-gazing reflection of all the major characters. In many ways, this waa the TV equivalent of Lady in the Water.

| Jared's S&M gal ![]() | I don't see what the big deal was about his cameo either. I didn't find it distracting. I just found the scenes with him and Peyton to be boring. And I get that him telling Peyton to be patient and all may have been his way of telling fans to be patient and hang in there for the whole Peyton/Lucas thing, but the way in which it was done was too dull, IMO. |

Not that big a deal tbh, maybe a little distracting but nothing major. Only thing I can say is they said "Peyton will get a visit from an old friend" was a kind misleading, she only started speaking to him when Lucas was lying in hospital unconcious lol... Mark Schwahn is a legend though so I think we can let him off the hook

he has been in more then just that one season 4 episode, i've been watching since the very begining & that episode where lucas had his heart attack was not the first time the two have talked, he has been there in his own way for payton as the record store owner for years, since her first mom died, he would give her records for free & tell her specific tracks to listen to on them, he's given her adivce before as well. i did not find it one bit distracting either, i found it cute, i have always kinda liked the interaction between the two, it's like an older brother taking care of his little sis (i personally think he's always had a thing for her, but she's too young)

TV equivalent of Lady in the Water? Well, then I'm glad I didn't watch. Schwahn is a very cool guy, however.

I loved that he was in the episode and didn't find it distracting one bit! I love Mark Schwahn, and I'm glad he was in the episode; I love his character, too.
