| When I wrote that I thought The OC needed more real problems, but it may relate to some of you. #1 I do not live in a huge mansion in the middle of a golf course #2 no one at my school even knows anyone who owns a range Rover #3 I can tell you this I love this show cus it isn't my life but I still feel like in no way does it relate to me I mean none of my friends are Drunk, nor have they taken a lot of Pills to kill themselves. Around here the worst thing that happens is a kid drives drunk and kills them selves sort of like Luke I also know that we don't complain about Zits but the OC isn't real at all. I highly down life in Orange Country is actually like that ever seen the movie Orange County? Well that was alittle different then the show yeah his parents had money but they weren't socialites. I dunno it all seems sort of played but I love it anyways... |

| though the problems that the kids on the show may seem unrealistic, but if you think about it, they are really exaggurated problems of the ones we face as teens. though not everyone will go through the same problems they do, they can be looked at metaphorically. personally, i have friends and know a lot of people who often are drunk and/or high (i think that has to do with the fact that i live in a fairly well off community...which parallels the OC in that way). futhermore, i know a LOT of people with nice cars and large houses as well. i guess i can relate to a few more aspects of the OC because of where i live, but of course, I haven't been in or even known about any love triangles or known anyone who has had a relationship with his friend's mother. the point is that though the OC has a few unrealistic plotlines, it is also the reason the show is entertaining. i don't know anybody's whose lives mirror the OC, friends, the simpsons, CSI (though that might be the most realistic of the bunch), etc. even reality shows don't mirror real life persay...the reason they are reality is because they are supposedly unscripted. if romantic comedies reflected real life...they would be completely uninteresting. most comedies and horror movies would be unrealistic as well. even though the OC is overdramatized...that is what makes it so fun to watch so we might as well enjoy it while it is around. |

| I agree with the above post. The area where I went to school was pretty well off and the students there were high or drunk just about every weekend. Every weekend there was a new party at a new place with the same people getting drunk, and getting high. A lot of times students would skip school to go get stoned or whatever. It also didn't matter how much money you had. Drugs are so easy to get a hold of that ANYONE can do some kind of drug or another. My house wasn't in the middle of a huge golf course but it was big. Even the new house we just bought it huge. My parents live in one house in the US thats 2 stories, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, huge living/dining room, 4 car garage, huge backyard, in ground pool.... and my sister and I live in Canada in a house that is 3 stories tall, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 6 car garage, 2 living rooms, full basement, huge kitchen area, huge dining area, huge backyard waitin for us to put in a pool. As for cars, in highschool, again no matter how much money you had, you had a nice car. The "less well off" students would work their asses off to make their car payments, the more well off students just asked and got a car. Our school parking lot looked like a show room for Ford, Dodge, Honda, Mercedes, BMW... hardly anyone had a "****box" car. The problems on the OC ARE real to a lot of people, depending on how and where you were raised. Obviously there are some things that seem really far fetched but a lot of it can really happen in the real world...just depending on the real world you are being rasied in. |

Usually, well most, TV shows can be unrealistic in some aspects. The OC is about rich communities with good cars, lots of money and huge mansions (and drama of course). Not everyone in the world (infact there are only a few of us do) actually like live the way they do. There are people who are socialites...and can afford bmw and lexus cars. I know quite a few people who drive range rovers but it never means they are living in a mansion. I go to a private school- there are some really rich families but none of us take money as an advantage. There are also people who don't have much money too. In every community, there are different people; either it be the diversity within the area or the total income people make. Most people cannot afford what is seen on the OC. I guess the OC has started this huge trend ( whether it be clothes, music, mansions, cars, the way we act) where whatever is on the show, so many people must follow it. Heaps of people want those big mansions with Poolhouses and alot of people want to go to California for their next vacation ( i know i do!). It's a TV show, you're allowed to make the show the way you want...even it means making an entire rich community. | |
