Caters for a wider audience than other similar dramas. Not only is there a storyline for the teenagers but there's one for the adults as well which involves mature, realistic storylines. The chemistry between the actors is believable - Seth/Summer, Ryan/Marissa, and Sandy/Kirsten are the standout couples. The actors work well together - you really feel Sandy's concern for Ryan as if he was his own son. And of course, the drama. What would OC be without it?

i personally think the reason why the show is so successful is because so many can relate to the issues that are put out into the show and people get inspired by California(well i do!!),also the relationships in the show; so many form , there are break ups,affairs...its all drama!!!

you have a little bit of everything, perfectly mixed. I think if one key person were different or missing-if Seth wasn't played by Adam Brody, if Seth wasn't even there, for example, it would be a dud. And good plotlines and scripting, obviously. I just believe that got exactly the right actors/actresses to play the roles

There is alot of drama and the people are beautiful and rich, yet they aren't all snobs. Nobody wants to see spoiled rich kids be brats *cough*Laguna beach*cough*
