Just one question for girls what is the point in piercing your ears to put jewelery on them??

Why do we wear earrings? Easy, to make us look good! Like other accessories, earrings are a way of "dressing up" an outfit and personalising it. You can have two people wearing basically the same outfit, but the accessories they pick to go with that outfit will often be totally different and tell you something about their personality.

And why do we pierce our ears? Well, for a start, pierced earrings are a lot more comfortable to wear than clip-ons, especially if you're going to be wearing them for any length of time. A lot of clip-on earrings have very strong springs in the clips, which can pinch your lobes quite hard, and that can be quite painful. As a general rule, unless they're really heavy, pierced earrings are a lot more comfortable to wear, so the main reason is probably comfort.

Another reason for wearing pierced earrings rather than clip-ons is because they're more secure and harder to lose. Even though they may have a very strong spring in the clips, it's still quite easy to lose clip-on earrings, as they just pull straight off your ear and can slip off under their own weight as you move about. Because pierced earrings actually go through your earlobe, it's a lot harder for them to fall off. Of course, there is the slight danger of getting them caught on something and tearing your earlobe, but that's a minor risk and, like the slight and short-lived pain when we actually have our ears pierced, one we're all prepared to accept in return for the increased convienience and security.

And another reason for having our ears pierced is because there's so much more choice in earrings if you have your ears done. Because most women now have their ears pierced, a lot more earrings are made for pierced ears than are made for unpierced ears, and in a greater variety of styles. Also, clip-ons tend to be quite big and clunky, which is no good if you want a small light pair of earrings to go with a certain outfit!

Of course, there's probably also a fair bit of peer pressure as well. We see our friends getting their ears pierced, and we want to be like them and have ours done too...

So I think I speak for most women when I say the main reasons why we have our ears pierced are comfort, choice and security. Does that answer your question?

Oh yeah, pierced earrings are sooo much more comfortable to wear. I can't wear clip-ons for more than about half an hour before they start to hurt. That's one of the main reasons why I had my ears pierced, because I just got so fed up with my ears hurting every time I wore clip-on earrings. Maybe that's why Mischa had hers done too?

I know exactly how you feel! Even though I've had my ears pierced for a long time now, I've also got a few pairs of clip-ons, but I hardly ever wear them because they hurt so much after I've worn them for a while. It seems as though Mischa doesn't have so much of a problem with that, as she still seems to wear clip-ons quite a bit, but I'm sure it was part of the reason why she had her ears done too.
