Poor Marissa!

Hi, I hope I am not too new to start a topic!

So far I have only seen up to "Family Ties" in season 2, therefore I am not really up to speed... and I try to avoid spoilers as much as possible, but I had to give my opinion about this.

I have seen many people bashing Marissa, and bashing Ryan/Marissa... but so far what I have seen of the show, all I have been able to think is, poor Marissa! In Family Ties I cried so much when Jimmy left, how dare he leave his daughter in that world alone?

Marissa was obviously already messed up before Ryan came along. She was, yes, a spoiled little rich kid who had not gotten the proper attention from her mother (and her father, though he loves her, could only do so much in his situation). Then as the series progresses her [violent] boyfriend breaks up with her, and gets shot, then her parents get divorced, her boyfriend cheats on her... this is the part when she takes the painkillers right? Then her mother's solution is to try to have her locked up - she goes to live with her father, the only person she feels she can trust and who loves her. Her mother remarries, and Caleb forces Marissa to move in with them (horrible, horrible part!). Her friend Oliver turns out to be sick and suicidal, Luke leaves, Ryan gets another girl pregnant, Julie is Julie, Ryan leaves, then comes back, Julie strongly disapproves of DJ/TJ (no subtitles, can't make out his name), her parent's make out, and then her father leaves her with Julie and her messed up life! No wonder she has issues! I can only pity her, and I keep wishing for something good to happen to the poor girl... and something must soon, because itncan't really get any worse... can it? You guys know what happens, I sort of don't (sadly it's impossible to stay 100% spoiler-free on a fan forum)... but I don't understand how people can hate Marissa.

Oh i totally agree!! Ive seen all of Season 2 and am waiting on a friend to send me the beginning of Season 3 (keeping up with it from Australia), and I cried too when Jimmy just left Marissa! It was at such a horrible point in her life... she had no one. As much as she does sometimes bring things upon herself I do like her, and I hope that one day she'll get a happy ending that she deserves!! (and hopefully with Ryan by her side - when will those two realise they're meant for each other!)

Marissa is a good example of how money alone cannot buy you happiness.

At least Jimmy is back now, she needs someone like him to keep her feet on the ground.

If things would just work out with Ryan (permanently!) then she'll be fine

I honestly don't know what people hate her. I do feel sorry for her, but I think she's alright now. She's a strong person, even as much as she has been through. I admire that about her.

Many people hate her because she is the best and then she is the drama queen of this show. Same words for RM couple. They are the main couple and they have all strong and hard storylines.
I think the real fans love this show and they respect all couples.

I feel bad for merissa she always gets caught up with the wrong people, first it was oliver and now I think johnny is going to be just like oliver, I hope not cause ryan will go nuts again. Do you guys think this will be the last season of the oc?

i do feel sorry for marissa but if she wasn't in the show then there wouldn't be as much drama shes like the back bone for the show and i think she rocks.
