The cast of ABC's The Nine ABC announced last month that it would be bringing back its critically-acclaimed but low-rated drama series, The Nine, and tonight, the first of the show's six final episodes will air on the network.

The series, which follows the story of nine survivors of a hostage standoff following a failed bank robbery, debuted last October on a timeslot following Lost.  Despite its strong lead-in, the show averaged a mere 8 million viewers during its initial run.   After only seven episodes, the network took The Nine off its schedule, and in March announced that it had cancelled the series.  As a result, the show was not included in the network's 2007 fall lineup, which was announced in May.

ABC is just like NBC. They cancel good shows and and mess with ones that shouldn't be messed with. Lost is going to tank if they keep skipping it around. Studio 60 was a good show too. What's really sad is there are old shows out there that draw almost the same ratins as The Nine did and are still around. Most of the time, the first season of a show is always the weakest. Even for mega hits. Cheers, Seinfeld, etc.

What's really irritating is that we get to see the last few episodes of a series that's already dead. Kind of morbid isn't it. It's like a look into the zombified life of a series.

This is why I hate network tv. These people don't have a clue what they are doing!

The networks prefer yet another show prompting viewers to call in to vote or a carbon-copy of a talent search/dance/singing/magic act/fake survivor act with a slightly different name than one from a competing network. No actual plot needed... Ridiculous.

The saddest thing of all is that these episodes are so much more intense than the earlier 6 episodes. I am in the process of watching them at ABC.com right now and it's killing me to know that I won't get to see the end!!! It's like reading a really good book till you're 20 pages from the end and throwing it away instead of finishing it. I learned my lesson too. I will not start a story-line show like this one until it's made it through it's first season and is renewed for a second. Invasion, gone. The Nine, gone. The show about the girl who could change time and who worked in the morgue, gone. Too many good shows lost for too many REALLY bad reality shows.

why should i ever watch a new series the first year when the networks just yank them off and you do not get an ending. i loved the nine and would love to see an ending and to know what happened in the bank and who stole the missing money. i also loved invasion and was so disappointed when it was taken off with what i feel was not an ending. so i think i am finished watching new shows that do not have an ending every week.

Having no closure is yet another instance of why some of us network watchers continue to be driven to paid-for tv. How silly I feel -- and cheated of my investment as a consumer. I will no longer be turning the channel to ABC. This last fiasco was it. (Thanks, ABC, for at least allowing me to see the 13th and last episode.)

really makes you not want to watch any tv. it is almost like the net works don't know how to think out side the box and give viewers what they really want, a choice of what to watch. I have already had my feel of reality tv. it is no longer intersting. i get tired of watching the same type shows on every channel. i think that the net works do not have enough imagination to have a suspensful show to play out for more than a couple of episodes. if they did, they wouldn't keep cancelling the really good shows. this is why i choose not to watch prime time tv anymore, it is boring and redundent. same old stuff on each channel, someone trying to dance, sing, eat a bug or something else that all of the channels are showing. By by prime time shows.

I can't believe my wife and I are two of only eight million viewers for The Nine. It was a great show. Well written and acted. You also have regular show's that they don't air for weeks on end. You turn on the TV to catch Boston Legal for example and get a Barbara Walters special or some other nonsense instead. ABC is not the only one either, HBO cancelled Deadwood, John from Cincinnati, etc. It's hard to watch any series these day's.
