Vampires!  Awesome!

Moonlight,
the new CBS drama about a vampire who copes with living in the modern world while being a private detective, debuts tonight and the reviews have been what you would call “mediocre”.  But, what do the critics know, right?  It's a show about a vampire, which is an automatic turn on for certain groups of the population, and these vampire-lovers will likely give Moonlight a chance to impress regardless of what anybody says.  Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight's Friday night companion, gets poor reviews amidst similar thematic elements, and that show's entering its third season.  Frankly, no one knows how Moonlight's going to perform in the ratings, because it's in the type of genre that holds rabid fans who couldn't give less of a crap what the majority thinks.

Ok I just watched it. I'm giving it another chance next Friday to impress me. It did not tonight. The special effects were not worthy of the CBS budget. El Cheapo contact lenses from the local optical shop just do not give the 'vampire' look. The show has one more chance with me. but just one!

Honestly, I didn't think it was much like Angel. But it was very, very much like Forever Knight (though not a smidge as good.

I hope the Celine Dion was just a pilot thing.

I liked it. It was entertaining and struck the balance between being self-aware and being a serious story. It had its own unique "feel". -sa@bonasi.com

I totally loved it. In my opinion it wasn't that much like 'Angel' (besides the good vampire hero thing), if anything it has more of a 'Supernatural' vibe to it. I mean, the whole thing about the sun, crosses, and garlic not affecting them is kind of like 'Supernatural'.
I still think the show's awesome and it shows a different vampire than what shows like 'Angel' and 'Supernatural' do. I'll defiantly be tuning in every Friday night.

I loved the show, yeah some of the driving scenes were cheesy, but the story and characters were great.

Meh. You gotta love that the victim went to Hearst College (total VM shout-out), but this show is really bad. The acting is uniformly awful. Dohring was great in VM, and Alex O'Loughlin was recently excellent in The Shield, but they're both way off base here. Also, it tries really hard to be a noir detective story, but fails because the individual elements aren't strong enough to pull off that stylized format. It's like a middle school production of "Death of a Salesman." It's sad, because, as an added bonus, Kevin Weisman was in it, and more Alias stars is always better.
