| This was sent to my inbox last night. I think that it is more than likley true. Kind of long but deff. worth it. Check it out. Guys, this is going to sound weird as hell, and I'm setting myself up, but honest to God, this is true... I have the first four episodes on DVD. I swear to God. I write long editorials and reviews of the show at various websites, and I even co-host a podcast. Apparently, the word is out, and I received an e-mail last week asking for my mailing address. Today, I received the first four episodes PLUS a season four soundtrack. I'll let you know how it is. Here we go people...I have seen the first two episodes, The Avengers and The Gringos. They were sent to me with a finished edit, but I believe the other two, The Cold Turkey and The Metamorphosis are still in rough form. I'm going to try to get to those tonight. Anyway, here's what I can tell you: It's good, people. It's DAMN GOOD. I don't even think I'm saying it because I saw them early. I mean it's REALLY good. First of all, secondchance, although I don't know that you'll quite get what you want in the first two episodes, I think you'll be very pleased with what you do get. So there's reassurance for you. if any of you thought the show needed to regain focus on the Cohens and Ryan, then your prayers have been heard! The episodes are very, very Ryan-centric, and his relationship with the Cohens is absolutely integral. There is one particularly great moment between Ryan and Kirsten in episode two that you'll need to watch out for. It's simple, but it's exactly what we always clamor for. Ben is absolutely selling the hell out of this story, and I think all Ben fans will be amazed at how great he does. He makes the cagefighting deal work. Really work. I know that there was apprehension, but it's very, very Fight Club-esque, and it's not just tacked on. It leads to something very specific. Aside from Ryan, Summer and Julie are taking it really, really, really hard. Julie has a line in episode one that sent chills up my spine, though I won't tell you what it is. I will say that it's near the end of the episode to Ryan, and you've seen this particular scene (though you've heard nothing from it) in the trailers. Melinda Clarke is awesome. Summer, too, is really messed up, and if you worried about the hippy plotline, I don't think you should. The writers do a terrific job of showing exactly how she's affected and how this change is a reaction to Marissa's death. Kaitlin does not eat up the story like people feared. She has a few great moments with Luke's brothers, and she does have a few side stories of her own, but I think you'll find that they're perfectly in-line with her character and her age. She shows a lot of concern for Julie, and there's one in episode two that reveals a lot about her, I think. Willa Holland does a very good job, I think, and she definitely fills the gap left by Marissa. Taylor is amazing, again, and there are some absolutely great scenes between Summer and Taylor. There is an undeniable chemistry. Seth and Summer are at a crossroads, but it's a very believable direction, and while you might feel a little angry at Summer, there's a particular moment in the premiere, near the end, where you get it. I'll say that it has to do with Marissa and a spoiler we've already heard. On to episode specific stuff... 4.01 The episode jumps five months ahead, not six. The episode is the most structurally complex episode they've done, and you'll see why I say that when it airs. There's a definite balance between the comedy and drama, although the comedy is always underscored by pain, and that's what makes it effective. The cagefighting is really well done, and you can definitely see what Ryan's new life is like. Ausiello is right in that Ryan didn't go to Marissa's funeral, but it's definitely not because he didn't care enough. He's also got a secret stash of something hidden in his new room that might make you tear up when you see it. And if Ryan didn't go to Marissa's funeral, someone else more than made up for it. The Stepmonster does make an appearance, just like we'd heard, but she'll remain a mystery. Those are pills in Julie's cabinet, and she's really messed up. She takes to home improvement. Seth is just chilling, and yes, his time with the Newpsies is great. You're even going to see a Newpsie favorite in the episode, so that might excite you. The comic book store is really fun, too. Sandy and Kirsten are definitely more in love than ever, and they work great as a team here. They're parenting like never before. It's never been so obvious how much they love their boys (until episode two). The episode pulls together nicely at the end with a special return from a group of characters from season two coming back, and it's one of the most poignant moments ever on the show. It honestly did make me tear up. And then there's a BAD ASS cliffhanger at the end of the episode. It's nothing huge, don't get me wrong, but it's so incredibly intense. You'll love it. 4.02 I know this post is the longest post ever, so I'll cut this one short and tell you that I think you're going to really like Che. He's characterized in much the same way the Newpsies were early on. He's so over the top that he comes back around to being real. And that's good. There is tons of quality Seth/Ryan time, and most of it is hilarious. And if you thought Seth was clever with "What's the GP, RA?" then you don't know Seth well enough. He tops it here. Or matches it, at least, because let's be honest, that was a great moment. But the quality time isn't them playing video games. No way. They're on a quest. Their relationship is explored really, really well in this episode, and the end will make you want to cry. It's perfect, and it's something the show has needed. I don't know how long it will last, but it's good for now. This is a funnier episode, I think, and it has some absolutely awesome, intense moments. And you can see how they're flowing one episode to the next. The stories aren't disjointed. No random introduction of Johnny. Marissa's death is definitely playing out. Most importantly, I don't think you'll feel lost without Marissa. Not at all. I think you'll find that the show is as good as it ever was, and that Taylor and Kaitlin more than fill any type of void that's left. These episodes are intense, raw, funny, and just really, really good. Or I think so, at least. One more thing...those sides with Ryan looking for Trey aren't real. That doesn't mean Ryan's not looking for someone very important, though. Okay, so I just watched episodes 3 and 4. My brain is in O.C. overload, and I feel like I might crash sometime soon, but I've got a long night ahead, so here's to making it all work. Anyway, episode three is great. Really great. There were moments where I laughed hysterically, moments where I jumped off the couch (though Fox's promo monkeys will likely give away what startled me), moments where I had tears in my eyes, and overall, it just worked. It felt like a real O.C. holiday, complete with drama, comedy, and tons just going to hell. The episode provides you with some scenes from people you'd never expect to see together, and the final scene is one that will make you think, "Holy crap, I never thought I'd see that!" But in a good way. Episode four was just as good. The characters are making definite strides, and they're happier in this episode. Mostly. This is mostly a Summer episode, and there is a really cool opening sequence that's very different than anything the show has done before. Seth and Summer have a lot of good moments, and I have to say that I expect people who stopped loving Seth to start all over again this season. This was also a big episode for Taylor, and there is definite chemistry between her and Ryan. They share a lot of scenes together, and it's possible, as we've seen from sides, that there is something more between them. BUT... Marissa is far from forgotten. Ryan's not just jumping on Taylor by any means. Ryan's better, but he's not good yet. Remember that. This episode also has Sandy in all his glory. Really fun story that makes you remember exactly why you all prayed your dad would wake up, for at least one day, with bushy eyebrows and an accent. As for the cheeky crossover, CloudyDay, you aren't quite there. Of course, what I saw, in episode three, might not be the cheeky crossover, but I'm 99.9% sure it is. And it was a cute little moment. Actually, there was a continuation of it in episode four. It's not too much, though, don't worry. They're playing it safe and smart. So yeah, all four episodes were simply great. They weren't season one, but I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean that this is the evolution they should have made from season one. It stands wonderfully on its own while building off what made season one so great. Does that make sense? I don't want to get everyone too excited for the premiere, if only because I don't want everyone hating me if they don't like it like I do, but I do want everyone to have confidence in this season. It's so far removed from last season that you'll wonder if it's even the same show. And I really mean that. --Ok, I honestly think he's telling the truth and I have to say that I am totally excited about the new season.
