I don't think Vincent is evil. I think he is apart of the Retrievers of Truth, and based on their webpage the dog are there to help. "I guard what is most important in your life-your wellbeing", "My bark will alert you but my thoughts will reward you", and "I am here for a reason and that reason is you". From Lostpedia.com page on Retrievers of Truth. I believe that he is reading someone's mind (no idea who at the moment), but unless he is forthcoming with the info soon, I think Sun and Jin should fry that puppy up. Yum.

Dude... it's obvious... Vincent is really Krypto, the Super-Dog ... he just ditched his cape so no one would noticce... next season he's going to go paw-to-um... smokey-entrail (?) with Smokey!!! he's going to kick some smoke-monster ass!!!
