| I transferred this post from the General Discussion forum, since I thought it's appropriate here too. Sorry if this has already been discussed (I searched for it and couldn't find anything) but I think I may be on to something... Am I the only one who thinks that Vincent ISN'T actually Vincent and has NEVER BEEN Vincent as Walt's actual dog? That dog has been critical in bringing things to the Losties, leading characters into the woods, and generally just being very suspicious. He shows up at strange times, and he was the first person Jack saw when he "woke up" after the crash that led him to the beach. Too much coincidence. Vincent is also never around when Smokey is around. Cuse & Lindelof both said that "we" (the fans) have overlooked something very important in the Pilot episode. I think it has to do with Vincent. My guess is that Vincent is an apparition/creation of the island, and that the real Vincent died in the plane crash. There's even a moment in the Pilot episode when one of the main characters (Jack or Kate, etc) goes walking off into the jungle, and they pan to a shot of Vincent sitting down by himself, watching them walk off...and they keep the camera on Vincent just a little too long. Then stuff starts happening. My theory---Vincent is either a form of Smokey the monster, or an apparition/creation that the Island has made to gather info from the Losties and/or lead them to places/bring them things the Island wants. If you re-watch the episodes with this theory in mind, it can work. Thoughts? |

| dude, thats a great theory, i've completley forgotten about vincent. I think your probably right about vincent being an apparation. Like Christian is to Jack, Dave to Hurley, Horse to Kate, etc. My guess is that all these apparations are Jacob (maybe smokey), and he is using figures from each characters mind to communicate with them. Thanks for bringing Vincent back up man, I completely forgot about him and i agree he probably plays a bigger role than we think. |

| Right on. Although the apparitions in past episodes seem to only be visible to single characters, there are also characters (the therapist, Richard Alpert) who seem to suddenly appear out of thin air...ie, they can touch, feel, carry things, etc. This is what I believe "Vincent" to be. Vincent's obviously "real" in the respect that he can carry things like Ben's dad's mummified arm, and the transponder beacon that Locke tied to him. |

If they are teleporting, who's to say its just to and from the island? This would explain Harpers sudden appearance and disappearance in Juliets episode, and all the other times characters seem to appear suddenly "out of thin air" | |

| Senior Member | This is really cool. Vincent is a yellow lab, and there are certain studies right now tracking the psychic ability of these dogs (this breed of dog in particular is supposed to have strong psychic ability). I have always though that there was a connection between Walt being "special" and walt's closeness with Vincent. Perhaps whatever special psychic ability Walt has allows him some special way of communicating with his "dog." The Lost Experience, which is considered canon, featured retrieversoftruth.org. This was supposed to be a study, funded and backed by Hanso, to study the psychic powers of yellow labs. The head scientist dude for that was Dr. VINCENT "Wally" Bole (Wally Bole = yellow lab)...In other words he is Dr. VINCENT YELLOW LAB hahaha. As far as "clues" go, I think the producers threw us a HUGE frickin bone here haha. |

| Wow...awesome info erikau. I never got into The Lost Experience, so I'd never have known. So building upon this knowledge, does this mean that Vincent is connected with Walt psychically....interesting. They never explained the Walt-centric episodes where Walt's step-dad says that Walt freaks him out & makes things happen, etc. |

| Senior Member | I would say that Vincent is definitely connected to Walt on a psychic level. We know that Walt is special, because of the scene with his stepdad, and also what Ms. Klu tells Ben after she tests Walt in the weird little room. Walt then starts to appear on the Island, after he and Michael have sailed away. All of that leads to Walt not just being "special", but being speical because of a connection to the Island I think. That being said, Lostpedia has a whole list of events that have happened after Losties have chased Vincent into the woods. Maybe Walt uses Vincent. Those two can communicate on a psychic level, so Vincent can help protect Walt's friends even when Walt is off the Island. Maybe it is through Vincent that Jacob or some other entity communicates with Walt. Retrieversoftruth claims that yellow labs are above all protectors of their masters, there to ensure their well being. If Vincent is watching over not only Walt, but all the Losties, it could explain why chasing Vincent has often led to major events, The dog knows more than anyone on the Island, and he is doing his job as man's best friend to help them out as best they can with the help of his super-friend Walt. In a similar vein, I think that is why Vincent could "communicate" with Christian Shepherd. (If you haven't seen the Mobisode, it's canon, with Christian and Vincent, PLEASE watch it you'll find it so interesting if you like this theory) I think Christian is very much dead, but something on the Island has allowed his consciousness to manifest at times (I don't think Christian is ever Smokey). Perhaps the producers mean to suggest that certain people/animals can communicate with the "dead." In the movie Frequency, the thing that seprates the realm of the living from the realm of the dead is that the dead move at higher frequencies (or something like that haha). Maybe the Island messes with this, making the two worlds intersect sometimes...it could explain the whispers... Off-Island Miles uses a device to talk to ghosts. Maybe this was just to drown out his conversation, or maybe it was to help him pick up a different frequency. On the Island, Miles doesn't need the device to speak to Naomi's ghost. This could be because properties are different on the Island, or maybe he never needed the machine in the first place. In any case, he can do it, and maybe Vincent can, too. If Vincent can "comunicate" with the dead, and Walt has a psychic connection with Vincent... |

| I agree, I've thought this since the producers said we missed something in the Pilot. Plus, the way Vincent was staring at Jack, Kate and Charlie while they were going to cockpit was quite suspicious.
