| The Valenzetti equation predicts the extinction of the human race. It involves the numbers 4 8 15 16 23 48 The Dharma initiative was set up to change the equation to save the human race, or at least postpone the extinction. They found the island and realized its amazing properties. But they couldn't change the equation, no matter what they did (By the way, i think the solution to changing the equation is solving the pregnancy problem on the island, just my personal opinion). When they realized they couldnt change the equation they decided to live out the apocalypse in a safe haven (the island). But this is not meant to happen. Humanity is not supposed to survive. So when Dharma found a way around the extinction, the universe course-corrected itself so humans won't be able to reproduce in this safe haven and would ultimatley become extinct any way. But there are two examples from the story that give hope to the human race. 1. Aaron was born on the island. Maybe this was because was Claire was impregnated off the island, or another, more important reason. 2. In "Flashes before your eyes" Desmond goes to a jewelry store to buy a ring. When he does buy it, the weird old lady freaks out, telling him "this isn't supposed to happen" and all that mess. This proves that changes in fate can happen. Even though Desmond wasn't supposed to buy the ring, he did. Just because the human race isn't supposed to survive the apacolypse, doesn't mean they can't There have been many examples of the universe course-correcting itself on the show. The best example is Desmond trying to save Charlie from death. This example perfectly represents Dharma's struggle to change the inevitable. Thats my theory on course-correction. Hope there aren't too many holes in it. Let me know what you think |

If I may, I particularly like your above quoted weave, tho' I would like to suggest a possible related twisted weave. Perhaps our Island Collective Psyche is a BFSkinner/DeGroot Utopia led by "a great man", "not Ben" as Mikhail says in our Enter 77 episode. And, there are competing groups ruthlessly and rabidly trying to become members and/or control this Island Utopia including the Others and Widmore. However, these groups are not yet deemed acceptable to our Island Utopia thus rejected, and some work hard like the Others to be "the good guys" to help gain acceptance. Another weave twist is that the current Island population while enjoying some, but not all, Island benefits like looong life, are fixed cuz they cannot reproduce among themselves. Why killing a fellow Other is a very, very serious crime which carries strict oversight, control, and punishment by the Others including thru a powerful, formally designated Sheriff. And of course, why the Others are so focused on kids and pregnancies, particularly within the needed gene pool ... as Karl says "we give them a better life", and Jack incredibly tells Sayid that "the kids are alright" [The Who]. The Others are desperately trying to be accepted into the Island Utopia and/or survive, led by Ben who "for a reason", probably genetic, is best connected with our Island Collective Psyche to help determine their path to acceptance. Ok ok, you already know, I'm both LOST and twisted ... but, always having fun with you! Namaste - RichPundit | |
