| I have seen a lot of theories on here speculating about Ben and Annie -- her getting pregnant and dying, etc. I think that is key to what is going on here. I put that together with the Desmond-Charlie "prevent the death" thing and came up with the idea that Ben is trying to prevent Annie's death, but the universe keeps course-correcting. Take a look at what I've written, and let me know what you think. There's a lot of text, so I'll paste some of it here and link out to my site if anyone is interested. I don't think it answers all the questions and I may not have all the details right, but I think the overall theory is pretty solid: The Theory Ben is trying to change destiny. The Universe course-corrects him each time. But Ben is smart and determined to win (at any cost). He and the Universe are trying to out-maneuver each other like opponents in a cosmic course-correcting game of chess. Ben’s Ability Ben has imprisoned Jacob and harnessed the immense power of the island. He has learned how to "unstick" himself in time. He uses the ability to maneuver his consciousness through time to stay one step ahead of the universe's attempts to course-correct his actions. Ben’s Motivation Ben hated life until he met Annie. She was his one bright spot – his true love. They grew up together and promised to be with each other for ever. They wanted a child, but they couldn't conceive. Ben used the power of the island for a miracle, and Annie became pregnant with a son. Then the Universe took Annie away. She and their unborn son died early in her third trimester. Ben is trying to solve the “pregnant women die on the island” problem so he can take the solution back in time to save her. He believes he can do it, because, of course, he’s done it before. Annie’s Many Deaths Annie didn’t “only” die in childbirth (just like Charlie didn’t “only” die by being struck by lightening). Annie has died many times and Ben has prevented it each time (like Desmond did with Charlie) – and each time the Universe has reacted – most “recently” by killing Annie with the pregnancy. That is the move Ben is reacting to now. The Story: Once upon a time there was a magical island – a land connected to this earth, but very different – a land like Narnia, or Wonderland, or Avalon, or Oz. The ancient civilization who lived on this island guarded its powerful secrets from the outside world. But people from the outside world occasionally found their way to the island. And occasionally this meant big trouble. In the 1960’s, one of these groups came to this island. They called themselves the Dharma initiative and claimed to be experimenting with the island’s “unique properties” for the improvement of the human race. Many of the Dharma recruits sincerely believed they were doing just that. But the people behind Dharma had far sinister motives, including a plan to wipe out two-thirds of the earth’s population with a terrible genetically-sensitive chemical gas. Soon a war arose between Dharma and the original inhabitants of the island – a group they called “the hostiles.” (there is more at http://lost-ben-vs-the-universe.blogspot.com/) |

| Very intersting. I agree with the popular theory that Annie died giving birth to Ben's child. i dont necessarily agree that Ben is trying to save Annie like Desi was "saving" Charlie. Juliets episode shedded some light on her and ben's relationship by showing how Ben felt toward her. To me it seemed like she reminded him of Annie. I dont think Bens trying to "ressurect" Annie. He seems to have made Juliet his woman. Her willing or not. |
