Ok, so imagine you have the ability to time travel and a really good memory and you think of how you need to get out of a certian situation. So you know at such and such day at time x people are going to invade so the future you remebers that and puts a shotgun in your panio bench knowing you will look there for it. So that could be how Ben always seems prepared for things and somehow gets what he wants. Now the Halifax coat, maybe the island is much colder at the Ben Left it or maybe he had to leave in a hurry and went to the wrong place but it does seem to imply that he departed using the orcid station. I think Syid was willing to belive ben because of his time spent with the freighter folk and possibly with Charles, making him willing. Also anger and a need for revenge, what better hitman could you need one the island wont let die. We are all assuming the "He changed the rules" was referring to Charles but what if it was Jacob or some other 3rd player. In the Risk Game there were 3 players, and there are 3 people traveling to the beach and 3 to Jacobs. I am guessing the Oceniac 6 there are 3 from each side. Ben lets off Jack, Kate and Aaron/Hurley, and Charles lets of Sayid, Desmond, and Sun. But back to the rules, this implies it is a game or a contest with a predefined rules that have to be followed to win correctly and properly. Kinda Like an old fashiond Dule where if one person aimed off to the side to spare his opponent the other was to return the favor or win as a coward thus defeating himself. Same goes here if one person goes after family or certian other people then it becomes to personal. I would guess Widmode has known Ben since he was a child and is much much older than ben and would view mot others as children but is not really Bens Father as Ben Killed his dad and knew who he was aka Roger "Workman" Linus.

We know that Ben is referring to Charles Widmore when he says "He changed the rules" because Ben *says it to Widmore* when he breaks into his penthouse. He says point-blank, "You changed the rules." He's talking about Widmore.

OK Here it is. So Whitmore was on the island and feel like he owns it I hazzard to guess he was there with Dharma or before and somehow was chased off the island by Ben and the others. Here is my guess as to whats happening. The island selects who is supposed to live on it and those it chooses cannot die when the leave the island and have to stay there. Jacobs list is the people who are supposed to stay those not on the list are free to stay or leave. Clair is on the list hence why Kate leaves with Aaron as Kate is not on the list and Clair will want Aaron to grow up off the island. Jack is on the list and there for an Other and is why he should not raise Aaron. Ben was selected by the island at a young age and is why he is so close to Jacob, much like Ben adopted Alex as his daughter the island/Jacob adopted Ben and the rest of the Others like Jack, Walt, Hurley, ect they are all people with Dead beat dads so the island acts like an over protective father wanting to keep his children close to home. The reason we keep seeing Christian Shepard is he was a deabeat dad trying to fix his life and his body was on the island so the island has a connection with him helping him fix his relationships the best it can. Now whitmore was one of the chosen and misused his power/authority and caused a civil war thus splitting the others one group led by Ben and one by Charles both fighting for control of the island and its properties. A war in which Ben has been winning up till now.
