| I haven't seen anyone acknowledge the fact that the funeral that ONLY Jack attended was in a run-down, from the looks of it black neighborhood. People have been saying it's Ben in the coffin. Why would Ben have a service is this neighborhood? People have been saying its Locke? Once again, why would Locke have a service is this neighborhood? Look at where the funeral parlor is located. We know it's somewhere around LA. The one person I think of is Michael. he's black and he's from the area. It could be Michael in the coffin. I'm throwing it out there, what you guys think? |

| Senior Member | If one more person says it couldn't be so-and-so or it has to be so-and-so because it's a black neighborhood I'm gonna scream! Not only is that the lamest argument I've ever heard (last time i checked, funeral parlors & neighborhoods aren't race specific) it's a farely racist comment.

| Senior Member | They made it very clear that it was in an area that was predominately black yes and i'm not disputing that. But to assume the person in the coffin can only be a black person because of the neighborhood is a racist statement. So what the poster is basically saying there is no way a white person would be caught dead there (pun intended).

| Senior Member | guys, we're talking about a man with no friends or family... whomever made the arrangements for a viewing (and that "who" is, i think, an important question...is it jack?) probably chose the most inexpensive, closest and available. afterall, the man had a loft in the city. considering he had no relations to accommodate, the location of the viewing is probably otherwise irrelevant. |

| It isn't racist because there are other reasons why it would make sense. I posted them in another thread, but since this thread is all about Michael being the one in the coffin, it wouldn't hurt to share them here: The wake is in a low income African American neighborhood. It's likely where Michael would be when returning to the outside world as he was not well off before coming to the island. Someone mentioned a point about a loft in the city as well. If I recall Michael's history correctly from Seasons 1-2, Michael was an artist and at one point had a loft in the city. If there's any wake Kate would gawk at the idea of attending, it's Michael's. After all, he not only killed two Losties, he also committed the ultimate betrayal of delivering Kate, Jack, Hurley and Sawyer to the Others. That isn't something Kate would soon forgive. John Locke and Ben, the only real other possibilities would never leave the island provided they had a say in it. On the off chance that Ben decided to leave, he would never make off alive, as many of the Losties have good reason to want him dead, and quite a few are more than up to the task of making that happen. Lastly, if Jack's true desire is to get back to the island, he needs a way back. Who could give him that? Michael. Michael is the only Lostie who has the coordinates off the island. Jack would want these coordinates to return as he's tried several times to crash there again to no success. With Michael dead, those coordinates would be Lost. No way back to the island so Jack can correct the future or return everyone to the correct future. Jack's motivation has always been to help others. He's not trying to go back for himself. |

| If it's Michael, why didn't Walt show up to the funeral? Or Sun (she was planning on moving to LA) and possibly Jin? What about Locke? More than just a curious Jack would have shown up to Michael's funeral. |

As per Walt.. they were probably estranged at the time. Heck.. they were estranged on the island given the 10-year gap.. murdering 2 Losties probably doesn't help the situation. But we know the guy in the coffin had a teenage son from the newspaper clipping. | |
