| It's clear to me after the finale that Desmond was supposed to protect Charlie long enough for him to disable the looking glass station (which only a musician could do in those circumstances). Some force on the island was trying to kill Charlie and Desmond was given the info on how to stop it. At first the vision were used primarily to save Charlie from danger but soon they were used to guide Desmond. They lead him to Naomi by showing him visions of his girlfriend and in the process convinced him to follow their direction exactly or risk changing the outcome. Are these visions evil though? If we are to believe Ben then yes. The visions directly lead to the phone call by placing Naomi in the losties camp and Charlie in the Looking Glass station. The visions also appear to be in direct conflict with the appearance of Walt who saved Locke with the goal of preventing the call. So for now it appears the forces on the Island are torn between protecting the Island and exposing it (Black/White, Good/Evil). They are playing a game of chess with the Islands inhabitants. Now of course it could be just the opposite and the visions are meant to save to losties. We know at least three people make it off the island so either Ben is lying again or the extermination fails. Judging by future Jacks desire to return to the island and Naomi's dishonesty (speaking in a language only Patchy could speak) I don't think that's the case though. |

| Other than Jack and Kate, who was the third person to get off the island? |
