Default Where is the Island?

I've posted this in some of the other Lost forums. What do y'all think?

Here it is: Back in Season 1, Walt was reading the Spanish(?) comic book. All of us focused on the picture of the polar bear. But did you see what was on the opposite page? Here's the screencap:

http://www.imagehosting.com/out.php/...lostisland.JPG

A drawing of an icy mountain, like a volcano, with an island atop it, in a glass-like structural dome. In the bottom right hand of the drawing are the columns we've seen in recent episodes.

Are the Losties on an island in the middle of a now-dormant volcano in Antartica?
Think: Electromagnetic anamoly (the pole). Black volcanic rock. Monitoring station in Antartica set up by Penny. Desmond saying, We're in a snowglobe. Des also said "You can't go out there too far." I also remember someone asking Jack about what land could be 1000 miles off their course. His reply? Antartica. The producers say next season will be on the island. Sort of. It's entirely reasonable that the planes, helicopters, etc. could have been set off course by the anamoly and/or directly brought to the island volcano as a result?

Default Antarctica Theory is really cool

Hi guys

I’m new to the boards. I don’t read spoilers, so this is just speculation. Hopefully I've typed all these in right.

I’m really digging this “Antarctica Theory”. It potentially explains a lot. In fact I’m willing to bet on this as the location of the island.

Is the island the Magnetic South Pole? Perhaps a subantarctic island?
I did some Wikipedia research and found some really interesting stuff. (What a geek) For clarity my remarks are in italics.

Part 1: Naming connections
Part 2: Island Theories

Part 1: Naming Connections: Coincidence???

1) “…the first confirmed sighting of the continent is commonly accepted to have occurred in 1820 by the Russian expedition of Mikhail Lazarev and Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen.” (Antarctica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

2) “The first child born in the southern polar region was Norwegian girl Solveig Gunbjörg Jacobsen…She was a daughter of Fridthjof Jacobsen, the assistant manager of the whaling station, and of Klara Olette Jacobsen.” Antarctica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3) [Richard] Evelyn Byrd led several voyages to the Antarctic by plane in the 1930s and 1940s.

4) “The first documented landing on mainland Antarctica was by the American sealer John Davis in Western Antarctica on February 7, 1821, although some historians dispute this claim.
In December 1839, as part of the United States Exploring Expedition of 1838 – 1842 (conducted by the United States Navy) (sometimes called the "Ex. Ex.", or "the Wilkes Expedition"), the expedition sailed from Sydney, Australia into the Antarctic Ocean, as it was then known, and reported the discovery "of an Antarctic continent west of the Balleny Islands." Antarctica - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

5) Note: The "Kelvin black body spectrum[/b]" from the paragraph on magnetic disturbances coming up in the paragraphs below.

Part 2:
1) South Magnetic Pole:
“The Earth's Magnetic South Pole (actually the north pole of the Earth's magnetic field) is the shifting point to which the "south" end of a dipole magnet points. It is not located at Earth's South Terrestrial Pole; it is now off the coast of Antarctica, and drifts about 10 to 15 kilometers north-westerly each year.
It was first reached by Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition, though there is now some doubt as to whether their location was correct [1].” (Magnetic South Pole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

South Magnetic Pole [2]
(199 64.6° S 138.5° E.
(2004 est) 63.5° S 138.0° E

Could this be the location of the island???

Does this mean that the island can’t be found because it moves?

2) Magnetic disturbances.

Astrophysicists at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station study the celestial dome and cosmic microwave background radiation.
In cosmology, the cosmic microwave background…is a form of electromagnetic radiation discovered in 1965 that fills the entire universe. It has a thermal 2.725 kelvin black body spectrum which peaks in the microwave range at a frequency of 160.2 GHz, corresponding to a wavelength of 1.9 mm. Most cosmologists consider this radiation to be the best evidence for the big bang model of the universe.
Cosmic microwave background radiation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

3) Sections of Antarctica are claimed by Russia, USA, Argentina, Australia Chile, France, New Zealand, Norway and United Kingdom.

This might explain why Naomi speaks all those languages. Although it doesn’t explain the Portuguese. Does she work on a research station?
