Default Jacob, the Others, and the whispering voices...

Here's my take on Jacob.. and the whispering voices.

I think they're people... trapped interdimensionally. Possibly related to the "incident" that Marvin Candle referred to in 'Orientation'. Some electromagnetic accident that has captured people outside the normal time stream. The Others (Richard and his bunch) have managed to capture or contain one of them... Jacob. Jacob is being held captive by Ben and the Others for them to extract information from. Since Jacob isn't confined in the normal time-stream, he's able to pretty much see everyone's past, present, and perhaps their future. I believe this is how the Others are able to get such detailed records on all the Losties... stuff no one else would know about. Like Sawyer shooting that guy.. there were no witnesses.. yet it was in his file. How would they know that? Unless Jacob had seen it.

For some reason, only Ben can see Jacob. Why that is, I think is yet to be revealed. I don't think it has to do with him simply seeing his mother.. as Locke saw his own mother when she pointed to the crashing plane. I think we're going to get a little more backstory on Ben that might show he was involved in some "incident" of his own. My gut tells me it may also involve his childhood sweetheart (hamster lady?).

So, the Other's are relying on Ben to gather information from Jacob... and we all know, information is power... and Ben seems to love power.

Why is Richard so young.. and possibly the rest of the Others as well? Perhaps it's because they were involved in the same incident... only partially. They are "interdimentional".. but only partially so. So, they don't age... and they don't leave any footprints.

Desmond has had a taste of this also since the implosion of the hatch. He relived a portion of his life with Penny, and can now forsee Charlie's fate. Perhaps he's partially interdimensional as well.

Maybe Richard is a lot like Desmond... perhaps he was able to foresee a person who'd killed their father, who had a mother named Emily, who had recovered from paralysis, and who would become their leader/savior.

To take it a step further... perhaps Locke himself is now partially interdimensional since he was involved in the same implosion. I think it will be revealed that he can't be killed... at least, not by a bullet.

I think either the Others are trying to free themselves from their interdimentional prison with the aid of Jacob.. or they're looking to capitalize on it with information that Jacob gives to them.

Thumbs up

The interdemensional theory is one I've been in support of for a long time. It definitely explains most if not all of the crazy of this show. Go search my other posts to see a few long-winded theories about this (and other things).

I have wondered how they could have gotten that info on Sawyer killing that guy myself. As you pointed out, there were no witnesses so how could that have gotten in his "file." I have my own theory on Jacob though which is quite a bit different than yours. Nonetheless your theory is very plausible.
