The island doesn't kill pregnant women. Ben does.

Since the pregnant women on the island seem to lose their lives at the same time Ben's mother did (7 months, I believe.) I'm quite confident that Ben causes them all to die. Now here is the real question. Does he do it psychically (intentionally or unintentionally) or physically? By use of the "box" and things manifesting on the island, his rage could cause the illness, but I am betting that he actually intentionally causes the illness. That is why Rousseau had her baby. He didn't know she was there and pregnant. When he found out, he took the baby. He couldn't get to Claire, like he had hoped too. I think that Ethan and Juliet were trying to cure an illness that doesn't exist. Thoughts? Anybody?

I think that pregnant women die earlier than 7 months along. Sun is a month or so pregnant, and Julliete told her she had a month to live. Suns not even showing yet.

They die in early or the middle of their second trimester . . . . 4-5 months, not 7 months.

Wow! I came up with the same thought in another post. I think Ben poisoned all the pregnant women so their experience will be a repeat of his. His mother died from pregnancy so everyone else's has to, also. He missed out on killing Rouseau so he stole her daughter and told Alex her mother died in childbirth, like his own mother. He tried the same with Claire. Remember, Alex told Claire they were going to steal her baby and let her die. This means Sun is going to be O.K., as long as they can keep Ben from getting his hands on her.

I think see is kind of on the right i think that
ben might actually be killing the children but not for those reasons. i geuss we will al have to wait quiet a long time to find out! Theres suppost to be 3 more seasons, good and bad at the same time! can't wait!

I don't think Ben would bring in a fertility specialist if he was just going to kill the children. Even if he did it to appease his followers he would risk her finding out what he was doing and exposing him.

Ben seems to be protecting the Island and while we don't know for sure if the Island is killing the women it's certainly boosting the potency on the men. With the information we have so far it seems like Ben and the others are desperately trying to arrange an on Island conception/birth and another island force (good/evil, black/white) is trying to prevent it.

This would also help explain why Ben waited so long before attacking the Losties camp. Why give the women time to get pregnant, send in Julliet to root them out, and risk your own men in a night raid if your just going to kill them?

Assuming he's doing it intentionality and without the aid of Island magic.
