| Just throwing it out there... The people who were that before Dharma are descendants from the Black Rock. Of course, that would mean two things: 1.) They had women on the ship 2.) The four-toed statue people are from an earlier time |

| Damn! I thought I would be the first to post this one.
The only thing is, Alpert seems to carry himself pretty well, in terms of articulation and social graces. Pirates were typically the scourge of society, outcasts, and without any type of education. |

| I don't think that the hostiles are original inhabitants of the island at all. Maybe they are dressed down to fool others, similar to what we saw when the Others in Season 2 had on fake clothes. Anyone that grew up on an island and was now an adult would not be able to adapt to technology so quickly as to recruit a doctor (Juliet) to an auspicious island for mysterious tests. I believe they were put on the island by another corporation trying to thwart Dharma. Maybe in their time on the island they came across startling discoveries about the powers surrounding the island. That would explain why Richard was startled to hear that Ben saw his dead mother, but not completely shocked. Maybe it's some sort of grass roots org. that believes that what Dharma is doing is wrong. |

| Of course, Richard doesn't (or barely) ages, so they could be original crew. (duh.) |
