| I do not believe that Jacob is an actual person -- though he can take human form. With all the abilities that have been attributed to Jacob (cancer curing off island and the blind devotion that everyone shows him) it seems unreasonable to attribute that ability to any given human being: My theory is this: Jacob is the spirit of the island. He is disembodied and therefore unable to act or communicate with the others on a day to day basis. They are forced to rely on Ben because of his manipulative qualities and the fact that he asserts himself as the leader. Jacob can appear to people in the guise of someone who has died on island. (Yemi, Boone, etc.) The main problem is that this method of communication is very spotty and the others need a better form of communication. Enter Walt. The reason the others so wanted Walt was because he was unconsciously channeling Jacob. From all his abilities (being in two places at once, etc.) to being able to manifest things on the island (polar bear). Also who did Walt have the strongest initial relationship with on the island? -- John Locke. Much to Michael's chagrin. Their goal was to help him better control his ability so that he could be an Oracle to Jacob -- the spirit of the island. I think that when Ben opens that door next week to reveal Jacob it will be Walt behind the door. The others have helped him to harness his abilities. When Michael and Walt left at the end of last season -- it was really just Michael that left. Walt was able to control his ability to bi-locate. He made Michael believe he was leaving with Walt. So that is my theory for the end of next week. Door Opens Ben: "John I would like to introduce you to Jacob." Light shines in revealing Walt sitting on a chair. John: "Walt?" Walt: "Hello John, Nice to see you again." Bang LOST |

| Everyone tries to say Walt manifested polar bears...umm no..the bears were on the island before Walt got there. Remember the bear cages? Obviously the Bears were released on to the island. I think it's a good theory but I also think people make too much out of Walt. |

| We all know the belief that young children and animals are able to sense spirits and ghosts or what not. I believe that Jacob is indeed the spirit of the island and that the others need the children to conjure Jacob. Not in like a ghost kind of weeji board way, but just for the spirit of the island to bring healing powers to the people of the island. Just a thought. May be a bit out there but hey you never know! |

| you know what if that did come true that would be afreaking awesome twist in the story but im pretty sure that the producers did say that jacob is someone we have not seen before so i think it being walt is not gonna happen................ Oli: This is being talked about a lot, but it is still a spoiler!

This thread never stated that Walt was Jacob. The speculation is that Jacob is the spirit of the island.. able to channel itself through various means. Its a good theory. I definately like it over the Jacob is | |

| I like that theory! But Ain't It Cool News says that ABC says, “Ben begrudgingly begins to introduce Locke to the secrets of the island, beginning with the mysterious Jacob." So it may not be as dramatic as your version. Being at the begining of the show also makes me think Jacob may indeed be Ben's good twin. But then again, has Ben really been that bad? He has twisted the truth and imprisoned and psychologically tortured people, but he hasn't hurt a fly. He doesn't seem as powerfully bad as the "spirit of the island" is supposed to be powerfully good. |

| well by the looks of it i was right and the person who thought jacob was gonna be walt has been proven wrong. we clearly saw that jacob was a man or a manifested man but we dont kno if he was manifested so we can only go n what we have seen and accorfing to the screenshot hes a man. with long hair and small stubbly beard so this should put to rest the theories that jacob is walt, locke, boone, jack no none of them but sum1 totally different........

| you know its always fun to read someones comments when they clearly didnt read the beginning. NO ONE SAID WALT WAS JACOB! damn man! c'mon! I still think Walt was supposed to help channel Jacob and maybe potentially even give Jacob someone to possess. If they both have mental powers its possble that jacob could inhabit Walt. I think thats why they want children. They are searching for Jacob's next body. |
