Think about it..... who could fund the others???? who could fun the unknown company mittelos biosciences???? How else would Penny be able to locate the island??? It's pretty simple, Widmore's forces "The Others" took over the island to take it's secrets so he could make profit. He tore apart the dharma initiative and the hanso so he would have no one in his way.

also, the whole mittleos bioscience guy being an other is kinda wierd, and Jacob is mister widmore.

Well the Widmore's were front and center in the plot to the not-really-a-tie-in novel Bad Twin, with links to the HANSO foundation and mysterious doings at an off-shore island chain. Sounds like a metafictionalized origin for Mittelos Bioscience, eh?

But where does DHARMA fit -- chicken or the egg? I think DHARMA was doing its DHARMA thing long before Widmore and Mittelos and the Others got involved, but the latter trio picked up or interfered with DHARMA's work on the island and has since twisted it to their own end.

I think the other's are Widmore and not Hanso, widmore possibly worked with hanso, but double-crossed him and took over the island. all of the other's are not from DHARMA, but it's possible ben's parent's were.
