Connections with Ancient Egypt Okay so, I know a fair bit about Ancient Egyptian religion and I thouhgt I should state some connections between it and lost, was just reading the thread about the islands connection with god.
Okay so first is the hieroglyphs in the hatch, I was told that this read "Underworld"? Can anyone verify that for me? The underworld was also known as the Netherworld, and erm... Two other thingies.
The underworld was originally were the dead people went, but they changed it and made it a trial of 12 gates guarded by demons, when they got through their heart was weighed to judge whether they could go to the afterlife or not (this ties in with the purgatory theory), this judgement would happen before Osiris...
Osiris is the god of the dead, and also known as the 'great shepherd', Jacks surname. Osiris was the also the first king of Egypt in mythology... I think.
...Thats all I can think of right now... Hohummm... The four toed statue looked sorta oldish, like Greek or something. Same time period I think.
Also, can anyone verify for me that the hieroglyphs read Underworld?
EDIT: Thought of more. The egyptians believed their world was an island that rose from the waters of chaos. |
