Personaly i think that if there is Smokie (dark) then there has to be a oppistite (Light), or bad and good, Ying and yang ect

(Dark) we have seen, we call him smokie
(Light) i think we have also seen, in the shape of a horse, hawk ect.

Could be something like
(Dark) can transform into Peoples fears
(Light) can transform into there hopes

(Dark) can only take people form
(Light) can only take animal form

What do you think?

why was it, if the visions are smokie is correct, so tactful trying to make Hurley killing himself and then not tactful when beating Eko to frack?

About the light "monster" only turning into animals, what about Jack's dad? Jack's Dad didnt try to kill him. It seems like some sort of exception.

i think it was quite tactful, because in the form of emi it asked him to confess, which he didn't and so smokie was justified in killing him.

with hurley smokie wanted to test if he would follow dave or believe in himself and libby.

in both these scenes there were bright red flowers, anyone else seen them anywhere?

i also believe there is a white smokie, it follows the white/black ying/yang story, and could be a good twist. i think jacks dad is smokie, because even with emi it took smokie a while to get eko to follow him, with dreams etc. and dave did a similar walk away through the jugle act. But in Jack's case he fell over chasing him, so im sure this is yet to return.

i also think smokie was walt and lead to shannon being shot maybe, and couldve been ben asking lokce to kill his dad at the pillar due to his huge pupils.

white smokie being animals is a very good idea, but if they were to use this, they would have to make a story and use real people to portray the communications of white smokie. if it was hope, maybe the parachituist is a white smokie, bit of a longshot though. maybe jacob is one too.

also how about the polar bear, do you think they were real or once real due to the cages. or they could be white smokie too, that polar bear seemed quite aggressive. and when sawyer shot it and killed it...maybe it was just pretending to be dead!

the instance with Dave and Hurley was different from Eko and Yemi, maybe because the monster knew that Eko wouldn't believe it. Also, the confession thing was a good point.

on a different note,

On a recent trip to New York, i kept hearing this strange sound that was really familar. it started creeping me out until i realized it was the Smokey the Monster sound effect.

The sound turned out to be the meter on New york taxi cabs when they stop. Possibly when they print the reciepts.

In LOST the pilot episode after the monster first starts moving the trees on their first night...

Rose: "There was something really familiar about that sound"
Someone: "Where are you from?"
Rose: "The Bronx"

Now, is this a clue to the nature of Smokey or just the writers being ironic about the sound effect that makes smokey? What do you think? A New York connection?

Also, there was a smokey sound when Nikki gets bitten by the spider after throwing the spider on Paulo. the noise starts just before the spiders appear.

i think the voices are not smokey, but the vision people may be. I think the voices are possible people in the future trying to communicate with the survivors or the accumulation of repeated time (the survivors have done this over and over again) manifesting.
