Groundhog Day?

Seeing Desmond going back and forth in time and trying to change the future reminds me of the movie "Groundhog Day." I'm wondering if everybody on the island is repeating the their time on the island again and again. Maybe Desmond is the only one who remembers.

When Mikhail said he knew of Sayid and Kate but remembered John as a paraplegic, I figured he remembered him from the past cycle of events. But this time Locke was able to walk and thus a wild card in the Others' plans.

But seeing how Mikhail could view Rachel with his satellite dish, maybe he was spying on John before he arrived on the island. The video of Rachel was very possibly a ruse, though.

I think Ben knows what happens in these circular journeys, and he's trying to change the outcome of something that will happen in the future. But he has to get people to act on their own free will for the future to be truly changed.
