Default Xanadu----> What a few lyrics and the name can open up

"Open your eyes and see

What we have made is real...." -----> Lyrics heard in 4x4 "Eggtown"

When most people hear the name Xanadu it either conjures up the Coleridge poem ~Kubla Khan, or a Vision in a Dream. A Fragment~ or Hurley's choice in video fare of the "cult" classic. Research the name Xanadu and there are many interesting connections.

In the comic realm it is the home to the comic strip character Mandrake the Magician, created by Lee Falk, believed by some to have been the first bona fide superhero. I willl save my other found connections for another thread. When you look at Mandrake and characters in the comic strip you find some interesting points.

Mandrake Who? To explain Mandrake's powers in a nutshell-----> Mandrake has the power to instantly hypnotize others and can telepathically communicate with others and read minds.

He is described as "....an illusionist whose work was based on an impossibly fast hypnotic technique. As the narrator informed us: "Mandrake gestured hypnotically" and the subject or subjects of this hypnosis would suddenly see the illusions he wanted. Mandrake fought criminals and other villains in his spare time. This would include common gangsters, mad scientists, and aliens from outer space or other dimensions"

Some Characters etc from the comic:

The Cobra - Is Mandrake's most evil and dangerous foe. He made his first appearance in the very first Mandrake story. In a story from 1937, the Cobra was apparently defeated; however, he returned with a vengeance in a story from 1965. This time hiding his face (scarred and disfigured in battle with Mandrake) behind a menacing silver mask. The Cobra's main goal is to get his hands on one of the two powerful Crystal Cubes that are guarded by Mandrake and his father Theron. Mandrake then learned that The Cobra's true identity was Lucifer, Theron's oldest son - thus making The Cobra Mandrake's half-brother. In later years, the Cobra has abandoned his silver mask as his face has been reconstructed through surgery.

Theron - Is Mandrake's father, although this was a secret to Mandrake for a long time. Mandrake's mother died shortly after she gave birth to Mandrake and his twin brother Derek.

8 - Is an old and very powerful crime organization with roots to medieval times. Long thought to be dead and no more than a myth, Mandrake discovered that the organization is very much alive. They are known to often incorporate the number 8 in their crimes or leave the number 8 as a mark. They are organized like an octopus with eight arms (headquarters) spread out all over the world, and one head (the grim and mysterious leader Octon, only shown as a menacing image on a computer screen). Over the years, Mandrake has succeeded in destroying their headquarters one by one. In one of the stories the Octon of 8 is revealed as Cobra.

Ekardnam ('Mandrake' backwards) - Is Mandrake's "evil twin", who exists on the other side of the mirror. Like his world (where the government is run by the "Private of the Armies", and generals do menial work like running the elevators), Ekardnam is an exact opposite, i.e., evil and treacherous, and uses his "evil eye" powers to work his magic. He was seen when Narda was drawn into the mirror, an adventure that may have been only a bad dream.

WOW Byzantine, your Xanadu and Mandrake post is absolutely great ... tx very much for sharing!

Think it has several elements consistent with our LOST mystery adventure, as well as our Forbidden Planet thread, and further suggests that our LOST creators/writers are rabid and knowledgable comic book fans. Personally, I am not familiar with either Xanadu or Mandrake, but will be, and look forward to more of your wonderful, brain-tingly posts.

Namaste - RichPundit

btw, I have held off posting about "Fastest Friends Part 2" cuz wanted to be sure that our talented and fun TTS board had a reasonable opportunity to see and pleasure in your post. Also fyi, tx for your gracious PM, but your profile doesn't accept replies [ ... your profile strategy also works very well for my wife, sons, and select friends too! ].

I previously posted the Lostpedia synopsis for this comic on this thread. The comic is also revealed in the S1 “LOST Genesis” DVD track.

Key Story Points (Part 1):
...
+ Alien X can sense, analyze, and act on human psyches in diverse ways including forcing unwanted behaviours like mercenary and even suicide!
...

Walt/Hurley Comic: “Faster Friends Part 1 & 2“ (1997):
  • Key Sequential Story Points (Part 2):

+ Alien X's psyche forces old Superheroes to unearth his spaceship in the Arctic.
+ Young Superheroes free old superheroes and defeat Alien X.
    + Alien X commits suicide.
+ Old Flash announces his death by morning due to his “hyper-metabolism”.
+ TV announces massive “alien invasion … materializing worldwide” thru portals.
+ The nature of the aliens is a “deadly mystery“.
+ Old/Young Superheroes search surprisingly undestroyed spaceship for clues.
+ Superheroes again lament that they didn’t try to understand Alien X.
+ Invading aliens overrun worlds in large numbers, then move to next world.
+ As revenge, Alien X summoned the inter-dimensional swarming aliens to Earth.
+ Young Superheroes enter a single portal to attack the aliens at their origin.
+ Old Superheroes enter individual portals to attack the aliens at their origin.
+ Young Superheroes mysteriously exchange identities exiting a single portal.
+ Old/Young Flashes stumble upon an alien “Temple” with an “Idol of LOST Worship”.
+ Old/Young Green Lanterns stumble into grave of amber gem alien skeletons.
+ An amber gem alien priest slowly dies as its life-force is sucked out of him.
+ Swarming aliens summoned by Alien X suck the life-force out of beings.
+ The Superheroes discover a “Mother Alien” that feeds off the life-force extracted by her kids from other beings.
+ The Mother Alien recalls her kids from Earth to protect her.
+ Superheroes hesitate, deciding not ok to kill Alien Mom hence entire alien race.
+ The “vibrational powers” of the Flashes attune with the alien race psyche which is “one enormous groupmind”.
+ Old, dying Flash realizes that the Alien Mom is like him in that she is in denial regarding the reality and acceptance of her own mortality.
+ Old, dying Flash continues that they both refuse to “take stock of how they’ve lived”, “the hurt and suffering they’ve caused“, “all the times they haven‘t been there for others“, and that “every life counts”.
+ And importantly, “no life is worth living without conscience and communication”.
+ In response, the Alien Mom opens a portal and leaves, communicating to Flash that she can’t repair her past bad deeds, but that she will do no further harm.
+ The Alien Mom also opens four, not one, portals for Superheroes to return home.
+ A single portal intermixes those passing thru it, ok if all of one groupmind.
+ Old, dying Flash reluctantly passes thru a single portal with another Superhero fearing he will infect other Superhero.
+ Old, dying Flash is magically cured due to intermixing with young, healthy Superhero!

HMmmm, think there are many elements in this 2-part comic book that may have strongly influenced our LOST creators/writers, and are consistent with our Forbidden Planet thread. I may post a few possible speculative related LOST storylines to further build our seemingly, imho, robust thread.

Tx for graciously allowing my LOST brain dump therapy, and sorry about my inept formatting skills.

Namaste to "We All Everybody" [hate that tune, but fits well] - RichPundit
[ Separately, would like to brain dump a couple of gnawing speculative concepts which need further crystallization:

+ Cooper/Locke/Ben. had speculated that Bad Dad Cooper conned Locke to have technology device implanted (a la Claire and Hydra rabbit), but now think that Cooper, perhaps working with Ben, conned Locke's kidney removal to survive Ben shooting as a course correction. Locke may also still have implant for unknown purposes. Therefore, think both Cooper and Ben are really the "Good Ones" ... I'm looney, eh?

+ Sun is pregnant by Michael. Think both Michael/Walt and Bad dad Paik daughter genes are important to our LOST mystery adventure, and a Michael/Sun BAH-bay is critically important to achieve some purpose such as Island psyche connection. HLyon's "Delicate" (Sun = delicate flower) vid and Sun telling Jin about raising "her baby" in Korea are also subtle clues. Perhaps portends that Jin will conveniently die!

+ Casimir Effect/ZPE. The Casimir Effect operates between extremely close surfaces, and involves the virtual free energy force (ZPE) that is not needed for whole existence. Perhaps when the ZPE-type force between entities and their attachment to a particular time thread is coarsely extracted, perhaps more than the ZPE state, the entity can become "unstuck" at various levels depending on extraction amount. High electromagnetic radiation may cause the detachment by overly-dislodging the energy between an entity such as Desmond and a time thread. May be related to Dharma Gemologist and Mycologist. Think this needs a bit more clarity.

+ "Constant" Gnaw [or "Constant Cravings"]. Geeky, but fun and extraordinarily intelligent Daniel Faraday's "Constant" revelation is a HUGE, "Big O" for me. It makes sense in a literal conceptual manner that as one is "unstuck" from one's own time thread, that a conscious mental "constant" is needed to sanely anchor oneself. However imho, mathematically it is annoyingly inaccurate. A constant is a number that precisely defines a fixed shift which is not, I think, conceptually what Professor Daniel is saying. Think Daniel means that when one is "unstuck" and becomes hopelessly "LOST", almost free-falling along various time threads, one must anchor back to some reference. This reference anchor is not a "constant" distance or point from where one is, but a relational variable distance from a known conceptional thread such as Penny or Desmond, that is also along perhaps parallel variable time threads. Obviously, I need to ponder further, cystallize, and better articulate along my own time thread. Sorry for the "Huh?" brain dump. ]

"Fastest Friends" is the Spanish [Portuguese?] comic book that Hurley was reading on our 815 and that Walt was enjoying by an Island camp fire. Several episodes show a secretly hidden alien spaceship and a polar bear in the comic. I previously posted the Lostpedia synopsis for this comic book on this thread. Importantly, this comic book is also revealed in the S1 “LOST Genesis” DVD track! [btw, I’m $quirreling away as many “Fastest Friends” as I can afford.]

Think that this comic book is a key LOST tale catalyst/seed/clue that is consistent with several elements of both our visible canon LOST mystery adventure and our speculative Forbidden Planet thread. Post Libby: Island Collective Psyche & Tool - RichPundit

If I may TTSers, would like to share my speculative LOST-y sense after our "MKJ" episode and re-watching the S1 & S2 DVDs [soon S3] that:
Libby seems to be a member of our Island Entity's collective psyche who repeatedly manifests as an Island tool for time loop course corrections.
Interesting related supporting evidence (n=5) that I consider to be canon include:

1) we saw ghostly Libby manifest to stop Kevin Johnson [Michael] in MKJ from setting off Ben/Tom's bomb on the freighter, then almost magically, an odd flag pops up with a tiny scroll: "Not Yet" ... seems like a planned "course correction" to me,
2) Libby appeared as a patient at the Santa Rosa Mental Institute with Hurley [& ghostly Dave] for unknown purposes ... perhaps likely to influence the behaviours of "Special" residents such as number-repeater Leonard and our buddy Hurley,
3) Libby appeared to crash with the 815 tailsection and, imho, methodically guided events thru to the shooting death of Shannon including on the beach thereafter,
4) Libby conveniently appears in a coffee kiosk line behind Desmond, says her husband "Dave" recently died, and that Desmond incredibly can have her expen$ive boat to sail in a Widmore race which happens to follow a course to our Island, and importantly,
5) Libby was intimately psyche-connected with Hurley on our Island in the "Dave" episode, proactively competed versus Dave for Hurley's psyche, and successfully saved Hurley from killing himself ... perhaps as another course correction.

And/or beyond their own course correction behaviours, these seemingly planned and connected behaviours may be the collective psyche's own ruthless & rabid defense against a competing group's own unique course correction behaviours. These competing behaviours may have objectives such as selfish possession of Island booty including perhaps limitless energy power, psyche connection/control, consciousness (i.e., psyche) time travel, phenomenal healing, and looong life. Also, still think that Ben is paradoxically really "one of the good guys".

Go Big 10 Champion Badgers!

Your thoughts?

btw, my wife is "annoyed" with me for stealing much of my sons' Easter candy booty, so I need some fearful escape from her wrath ... tx for my LOST therapy escape.

Lightbulb Collective Psyche Is Our Island Entity - RichPundit

HMmmm TTSers, imho, our Island has always seemed to be behaving as an independent sentinent entity. Thus, I and several other members of our vast LOST Collective Psyche, have speculated that our Island is a sentient Entity.

Building on this concept, I and several others, have speculatively extrapolated from this that the genesis of our Island is an ancient crashed alien with special capabilities such as the ability to tap limitless energy/power (e.g., Casimir Effect/ZPE). Importantly, with limitless energy you can do almost anything like psyche sense/analyze/act and psyche space-time travel. Our Entity evolved over time while connecting with lifeforms based on the nearby thus available select gene pool, most likely based on "Bad Dad" genes (e.g., Black Rock, Adventurers, Vile Vortices, etc.).

However, I woke up this morning [mental incubation] focused on a related speculative core theory line as a twist consistent with my previous post and our Forbidden Planet thread. If I may, perhaps:
Libby seems to be a member of our Island Entity's collective psyche who repeatedly manifests as an Island tool for time loop course corrections, AND perhaps our Island Entity is our collective psyche, not an alien.
To me, this is a significantly different twist to our thread, and a fun new perspective. It suggests perhaps that the ruthless and rabid competing groups that we have been observing are fighting for dominance over our Island "Collective Psyche Entity" by actively determining who is and who is not a member. [However to be clear, an ancient crashed alien still fits ... we all still need more canon data from our PTBs.]

Whew ... I feel much better now! Tx for today's LOST therapy - RichPundit

Lightbulb Psyche Tensions: Cerberus Vents - RichPundit

Quote:

Smokey - Smokey and other manifestations (e.g., Yemi, Vincent?, Horse) are the result of technology that helps our Island connect with psyches, analyze as threat or something else, then act accordingly or not. It is a security system as Rosseau claims when it senses a threat, but also other manifestations as the result of other sensing/analyzing such as Locke’s and Walt’s psyches. Also, the Blast Door map shows several Cerebus Vents (CVs) which may indicate that the Island builds pressure from various psyches, then responds accordingly including as Smokey, maybe the "Incident". ...
[Our recent forum psyche tensions with their associated behaviours have led me to speculate again about the function of the "Cerberus Vents" on our Island. As in Forbidden Planet, sentient entities, particularly humans, have psyches that are not perfect, thus occasionally resulting in regrettable thoughts, perhaps even regrettable overt behaviours. Think our former CommaSutra1der articulated that LOST fans are necessarily by nature intellectually talented, hence complex with many psyche needs. Therefore metaphorically imho, a "Cerberus Vent" may occasionally be needed to help "vent" undesirable LOST fan psyche tensions. A vent can be easily provided on our gracious boards for public personal redemption. The key is that any general public acknowledgement of even perceived transgressions needs to be real before redemption can be realized. A simple post that generally says "I'm an Idiot!" and promises only positive behaviours henceforth, easily works well for me! Sorry for my personal rabid free speech vent intended to help ease some regrettable psyche tensions on our forums under a disappointing posted threat .]

Cerberus Vent (CV). Some canon facts. CVs are indicated on our Blast Door Map, and Rousseau+ characterize Smokey as a security system with clunky mechanical sounds. Cerberus is the mythological, 3-headed dog that allows or blocks entry and exit to Hades, the Underworld. "Psyche" drugged Cerberus and entered Hades. The Egyptian hieroglyphics that appear whenever the numbers aren't entered on time indicate Underworld. The Swan Station protocol was initiated after the "Incident", as was the concrete filling of the "escape tunnels" and the operational end of the above ground Arrow station. Key Dharma stations are heavily fortified underground and labeled "Quarantine".

Some related speculative thoughts. Our Island is the manifestation of a sentient entity that senses, analyzes, and may act on psyches, both conscious and subconscious. Select psyches, such as intense Bad Dad, are best tuned to our Island. Our Island continues to grow and builds an electromagnetic psyche force that caused the "incident", and led to the required button pushing protocol to safely control disperse it ... like an electronic capacitor. Uncontrolled dispersal will eventually result in a seismic, volcanic eruption as our LOST creators have already revealed. The fail safe key was a one time semi-safe release of overloaded psyche energy (e.g., purple sky), but a continuing, catastrophic psyche energy build-up is inevitable ... the predicted Valenzetti end. The fortified, underground stations may be be quarantined to keep the psyche energy inside, and away from our Island's access, as well as blast protection when uncontrolled psyche energy releases.

Think Cerberus or Smokie is an automatic, Dharma-innovated security system that senses psyches, analyzes their threat or benefit, then acts to either block or allow Underworld entry, i.e., access or absorption into our Island Collective Psyche. Hence, Smokie smoked Mr. Ecko and tried to capture John Locke. Cerberus senses select psyches, builds energy, then disperses thru the vents toward the psyche source when a critical capacity is reached which triggers manifestations, i.e., the next level of sensing, analyzing and acting. Perhaps the "3-heads" are metaphorically for space-time geographical triangulation, tho' perhaps 4-heads would be more accurate if time is included .

Bottomline imho, Cerberus is a technology tool that manifests as Smokie and various other forms to sense, analyze, and/or act on the psyche source(s).

Whew! Sorry, I'm burned and gotta run ... I'll be back!

The online prolouge to season 5 might have already started? though it IS ont he main ABC site there are lots of clues and things to find, it’s a bit like a point and click adventure. each item has a small video clip relating to the item that was just found, I’ve found 33 out of 34 i’m still looking for the last one.

there’s also a sweepstakes too so maybe it acts as a portal to the new ARG? which starts on the main ABC site ? "

I casually enjoyed playing with the simple and clunky LOSTscape toy last night while watching two great House episodes, and perused background info about it on our TTS and other fav boards including DARKUFO's spoiler answers. It was almost startling to me, to Jacob_JStar's point about being a possible S5/6 prologue, that the Hurley/Walt comic book was again included in a major TPTB event, LOSTscape, because the comic:

* was only briefly shown in two episodes (plus quick previews): Hurley on our "fated" 815 & Walt near an Island campfire,
* indirectly referenced while the guys were "camping" via one of Desmond's visions, when Hurley & Charlie debated about the "fastest" superhero, Flash or Superman,
* mentioned on important canon "LOST Genesis" S1 DVD track, and
* is consistent with our LOST story thus far, and our Forbidden Planet thread as I have previously posted & partially quoted above on this thread.

Think curious, much fun, and imho, portends some key LOST mosaic pieces!

btw, also think that the special LOSTscape references to Kate's toy plane and our Dharma Swan station may also be clues to particularly important LOST mosaic pieces.
